Grinding TBI

Doing the Ultimate TBI mods right now ... maybe 1/3 done after 5-10 minutes... since I cheated and used a bench grinder to grind down the sides

Will post some pics once I'm done

Wouldn't say that was cheating just using available tools around you. Good luck on the rest of your TB.

hrrrmmmmm

*mumbles something about lousy grinding stones*

But in order to finish it I gotta get some better grinding stones ... *lol* ...

Oh btw.... how strong is the TBI .. really ? Because I noticed I don't have a lot of thickness right in the area where I need to grind the TBI in order to move the injector housing up a little bit ... so the fuel lines will clear

Reason I'm asking is.. I saw a TBI at the junkyard... snapped.. in half !! *lol* never seen one like that before *lol*

Dude that is looking sweet. I have been thinking of doing them myself. So let me know how much of a difference it makes. Sorry I have not responded in a while I just got back in town from Seattle.

Your progress looks good so far. I wouldn't grind anymore but instead take some sand paper and smooth out the rough edges. That will improve its asthetics a bit. I beilive this mod increases flow by 4% or so but your motor isn't air limited at this time. You therefore won't feel any difference in the but dyno.

Yup

Agree.. I got some nicks and nacks there ... need to do some serious sanding ..... may have to do it by hand though because I don't have a the mandrel for the longer tapered sanding cones ya use for porting heads and manifolds

It actually doesn't take as long as you might think. It only took me about 2 hours and some light sanding with 220 grit to get all the nicks, cuts, and imperfections out, and have it all nice, smooth, and shiny .

Two hours is not bad. How did that help your performance?

My performance? Not much, to be honest. With the ultimate TBI mods, injector spacer, and FP slightly increased, I felt a little difference in the top end, but that's about it. But, as we all know, the butt dyno isn't very accurate.

And of course, the ultimate TBI mods won't make much of a difference on a stock or low performance engine. I still think it's worth doing though, if you have the tools and the time.

Yeah right on man. I have thought about doing them just haven't had the time to take the car off the road. I am considering getting a junkyard piece and working one of those though then when it is done swapping it on the car in a few minutes.

I highly recommend doing it that way. That way you can really take your time with it and not have to worry about breaking anything, losing or missing parts, time-constraints, etc. And, you'll also have extra parts just in case you do break something.

I have 2 spare complete TBI units in the garage just for parts and/or just tinkering with.

What do you think they would cost? I mean like junkyard or ebay?

Thanks
