Fuel pump question!!
Fuel pump question!!
Well i bought a 91 RS L03 t-5 a week back.I conquered the vats monster but my prob now id no fuel to run with. The service records and reciepts i got with the car show the fuelpump was replaced in a gm dealer garage 30 thou miles ago.I pulled the lines from the back of the tb(no built up pressure)and put a hose on the big line to check the output, turned the key on,fuel pump primed and barely a few drops came out then it kicked off.I then jacked the car up pulled the fuel filter and tryed from there.Same--it primed and kicked off and about 3 to 4 ounces came out.But half way between priming and kicking off it shot air and gurgled.Fuel guage shows 1/2 tank.
Question is--i thought fuel pumps are supposed to prime until a certain pressure is built, right??What should i be looking at to cure this prob??Thanks

At key on, engine off the fuel pump is energized for 2 seconds. This is done by the ECM. The 2 second timeout is reset with each distributor reference pulse (DRP) the ECM receives.
Check for a red pig tail hanging in the open near the relays (under hood by brake booster). Run a jumper from that to battery + to run the pump continuously.
With the gurgling and air the issue may be the rubber line in the tank opened up, or split. There is one that runs between the pump and the metal feed line.
RBob.

The tank gauge may say 1/2 tank, but is there really any gas in it?
Just remembering three people spending almost a full day to try to get a truck started.Gauge showed 1/4 tank, but it was in fact empty.
One of the three was me.

I just poured 5 gal of fuel in it and my hand went near full and still no spray at the injectors!!I guess ill have to drop the tank.Recomend a fuel pump for me??Can i use one V-6 multi port--for a bit more reliable pressure with the TBI??Can i use one for Tpi since i'll prolly end up with tpi in the end anyway??

The 255 will be too much for the stock regulator but the 190 and the TPI pumps will be fine. They may wear a little faster as theyll be turning at a higher RPM.
Another thing may be that the P/U assembly came off the pump if its shooting air. You should get a nice solid flow out of even a stock pump.

The 91 should have the pigtail near the pass. side fender. You can also jumper it at the switch/sender near the filter. Just make sure you jump the right wires.
Tank on the ground as i type and the prob is the NC dealership that changed the pump had snapped the neck off the tank and rubber hosed it together(its now split open)and instead of the pulsation damper or gas line to connect the pump to the hanger line they used regular ****in vacuum/brakebooster hose and it had turned to goo and had a big gapping hole in the side.No gas in it besides what i poured in it though.
Using the tank outa my wrecked 87 roc(already had dropped cause i new i was gonna need it) and i guess ill use the sender system for the 91 because the 87 hooks up diff in the tank--just hopefully it'll start working right one day.Guess i'll just reuse the pump since it doesnt have many miles on it.
Someone had welded the intermediate pipe to the cat so i had to do this with the full exhaust and unable to swing it sideways under the car and it just sitting on stands in the yard so it can be done. With the exhaust hanging down i just tied it to the rim of the car beside it and placed a block on the robe to hold it near the ground.
So to end--The bastard retards that put this car together like this needs to hunted down, shot, gutted, and ran over by the car they screwed up so ****ing badly.I have reciepts so i pretty well know how to find them hehe!!
