stock power

hi guys i have the stock lo3 tbi in my 1992 camaro and was just kinda wondering if you guys can peel out off a light...

i know the motor makes 170hp and 250 trq or whatever but, i was just wondering if you guy's can rotate the tires on yours.

Mine will only brake lose on a curve or if you stomp it at around 20 or 25 it sometimes get's squirly but, it doesn't seem to want to brake lose off a light. I'm just kinda curious as i have a open element and a not to bad 3 in catback. Some people seem to think they realy have traction issues with theres, mine seems like it won't brake lose even with an open rearend unless you realy work at it (2.73s are probably the main reason i suppose).

This won't be a problem soon as i have a new engine that will be in probably come next fall and the tranny will be rebuilt with a stall.

Well mine gets loose, but it is a five speed. Make sure your car is in top running order though.

If you haven't done so yet, do a tune up. If you have done so already, your gears are the likely cause, I have the same gears and an L05 and its tough to break traction even without posi in a straight line from a stop, then again mine has a bit of a weight disadvantage (5000 lbs)

Forgot to ask.... why would you want to peal out? Traction is good, and it also helps your tires last longer

well i don't necessarily i was just wondering what the general consensus is. i myself would also rather have the traction considering good tires for a car like this are 150+ each. I'm running goodyear eagle gt2s which i like right now they seem to get good dry traction. Definetly not all that great for rain but, neither is this car.

Like i said i have a motor that will go in come fall same with the tranny being rebuilt by then so i'm sure i'll probably have traction issues then. i'm just curious if people with there car stock actually have much more power than me.

While counting outloud mine pulls a 7 second flat or thereabouts 0-60 and is still fairly quick for the power output they are said to come with considering it has 141k on the clock. I'm just curious as to what condition this engine is actually in truth be told.

What engine are you throwing in there? Do you plan on ditching the stock gears, I bet you'd find that a set of 3.42s would let you feel all the torque from your V8.

-EDIT-

Just checked out your car domain page...
I see you've got a free 305 block but since you're going through all the trouble of new pistons/rods what-not you may as well just buy a 350 shortblock for about the same price. If you picked one with some low compression pistons you could use your ported 305 heads to bump up the compression a bit, I think there is a bit more machine work involved in making them work well with a 350 but you're already at it anyways.

Axle/Gears: bunch of 10 bolts how scary is that
Hold the brake in rev the engine up to before it peels. Im not saying this is good for the car but if you do that once the light turns green then floor it she will brake right loose.

well i'll swap pistons and rods at a later date i think (i change my mind a lot so we will see what happens when i get closer to dropping it in).

The only thing i plan to do to the 305 is machine anything that needs machining (head work for big springs and valve seat enlargement is all i've found i'd need so far).

The deck of the block and heads are fine with no warpage so hopefully the cylinder wall to bore spec is good to i'll find out when i'm back to school.

For now i'm going to buy the comp cams 262 cam kit lifters springs all that sorta thing kit, and add some new valves slightly oversized (1.94/1.6 or maybe only a 1.5 exhaust not sure yet) and put a weiand stealth manifold, hedman elite long tubes on with a cheapy carb on top until i get the tools to throw efi on it again.

I'll be happy with it once i get 250+ hp for quite a while. Tranny gets rebuilt before i do anything to the motor other than porting though.

I have a line on a rearend with 3.23 and posi/disk with 38k on it come spring which i will probably end up with (this is mostly a daily driver so i'd rather not go with any more gear than a 3.43 (3.23 sounds about perfect to me on a calculator anyways). i'll be adding a mild 2k stall so it shouldn'tve to much of a problem getting off the line.

All in all i'm hoping to keep the engine pretty cheapy as of now (under 1k would be great).

Not to bad to have a 38k mile 275hp motor for 1k i've seen better deals but, its not to bad.

ps. i do know to power brake a car this thread wasn't meant to teach me how to drive lol.... Btw i've only power braked a car once and it was in the rain, i'm usually pretty easy on my stuff knowing that if i brake it i have to find a way to replace it.

Sounds like you've got a nice rig under way, that 262 cam is a great choice for what you're looking to do.

should be fun compares to how it is now... I should be able to possibly pull off a high 13 quarter if i can keep the tire slippage to a minimum. If not i should still pull 14s.

much faster than a stock 16 and somewhat respectable then i suppose lol. did i mention when i tried to mess with a kid in a neon i had my *** handed to me lol (didn't notice it was a rt 5 speed that someone slapped a turbo on). Found this out after i gave mine some throttle and all i heard was a turbo spoolin lol.
