305 stroker kits
hey, guys, i havent been all that active on this fourm. but i have been reading this fourm for quite some time now. this is a great fourm that taught me a bunch over the months! i recently aquired a 1989 firebird with a 305 tbi and an auto in it, the rest is stock. ive always wanted to build up a 305 because of all the resistance about it and because its not very common.
after looking around online i came across a few stroker kits for $800-$1000 that would give me about 335 cubes depending on the overbore of the block. i was wondering if these kits are worth it and if they any good? i was hoping to get oppinions from people who have these stroker kits in their cars. i plan to build the engine up in a few months and try to create a mighty mouse on a budget! thanks for any feedback guys!

Get prepared to be flamed by the regulars on this board for wanting to spend $800-1000 to stroke a 305. I considered this a while back and came to the conclusion that you could move up to a 350 for equal or less money and have singificantly more hp, probably a good +100 hp. In the end, do what makes sense for your goals (hp, $$, time).
The length of stroke in the 335 is not ideal for the bore size. Valve shrouding doesnt allow a whole lot of air in the cylinders and doesnt optimize cylinder fill for the power stroke. It just isn't a good idea. Go 350.

For 800$ to 1000$ you can get a 350 block, and then stroke it to a 383. A small block is a small block, you can't tell the difference from just looking at it, so why go through all the hassle and money to end up with something that doesn't run as well as a common 350 and not have anything to show for it. Joe blow at the local hang out isn't going to believe you have a 335 anyway.
