does my tbi have potential?

i have a 91 firebird with a 305 tbi. what are some suggestions on what to do with it? is it worth fixing up or should i swap to a tpi? i want ot bore it out and rebuild it, but dont know if its worth it. also what gear should i put on the rear? i think that a 3.73 would be nice because of the 700-r4s low first gear but not to sure. please tell me what you guys think. thanks.

if your absolutely in love with the car and cant get rid of it there is some stuff you can do to the 305tbi just do a search here there is a ton of stuff about it...or you can drop a engine in there like im getting ready to do......if your not...then get rid of that thing and get yourself a z28 or a gta with a 350 already in there....

Why is that? Most of the parts that he will use on a 305 can be used on another motor down the road. Dewey316 and Fast355 have already shown that you can make big power with TBI.

banditfirebird,

Welcome aboard!

Take some time to read through the stikcies above. They will cover all the performance aspects of these cars. The key to making these cars fast lies in the chip work. A few simple mods and chip work really wake these cars up. IE. Dewey316 ran a 14.5 with 3.42 gears, headers, and DIY chip tuning.

Before one of my ported 081s decided to CRACK, I was running 15.2s @ 96+ in the 1/4 with a 312 (.040" over) TBI in a Fullsize Van with 3.73s and a 2,800 stall.

It was running 9.80s in the 1/8 trapping 69-70 MPH. I am now running 10.80s @ 63 MPH with STOCK PORT 187 swirl ports cut for .550" lift with a stiff spring. That is mid 16s @ 85 MPH in my big/heavy beast. Fuel mileage is up, low-end torque is improved, and just overall driveability is better. HP above 4,500 has been seriously affected though (why wouldn't it 240 CFM vs. 170ish)

What about a Gen II or III motor? What about a whole differnt vehicle. If I wouldn't have modded my Camaro I could have had a 30mpg, 10 sec, 2002 SS with all that money. I learned a lot, had more fun then I could imagine so I don't regret it but $$$ can add up quickly when you are moddin for a few years steadily...

Now I'm stuck with this truck lol (it's fixin to get a LS1!!! )

Ah I C. I thought you were refering to the fact that it was an LO3 car only. I have owned both at one point and my bud currently owns an '02 SS and I have stuck with the RS because in the end it cost me less (initial cost, mods, insurance, etc etc) than those cars and will go just as fast (stock for stock that is ).

A strong rear-end, full exhaust (you can do overkill on this and prolly be thankful you did a couple years later), and suspension/chassis components are all a great start...

or have fun with you 305, and don't spend much money on it, while you build something that is REALLY fun.

Preparing for the EBL to come out are we?

This is my next project, to do something similar to this.

we will see. Since EBL will have 4 injector, and 2 bar MAP support. I must give it a shot.

Granted, I still need to build the motor to support those (Going to be a SJ 327, with some forged slugs, and good rods), plus work out mounting, and plumbing.
