New motor coming, some ideas

Alright, just picked up a roller 350 shortblock and a rotating assembly. I'm going to try running AFR 180 heads as well as an edelbrock TBI intake that I'm going to have to port the crap out of with a Holley 670 TBI on top of it. I know I'll have to buy a new fuel pump and go into some chip burning. The main thing is what kinda of cam should I be looking for. I know for high end power this is going to be out of the question and I'm really going for a slightly rough mannered street car. Any ideas with this?

Crane makes a nice roller that ran great for me.

Others would be the LT4 Hot Cam and the ZZ3/ZZ4 cam.

Rock on, dude. PLEASE keep this thread updated with results as you go along, cause I'm on virtually the same track, but probably not moving at the same pace. I've got a rebuilt 350 with the GMPP hot cam ready to assemble. The heads will probably be Dart Iron Eagles, topped off with the Edelbrock 3704. Sidebar -- If the 3704 is what your going to use, how do you plan to match the center mounting bolt pattern? I haven't decided on a throttle body yet, but there are several possibilities that yield 650+ cfm. The main consideration is to keep the control system/wiring in-tact. Re-tuning is a another challenge, but there's lots of expertise here to draw on. A couple of days in the exhaust message board convinced me to go with the Hooker 2055 shorties. (Without the air inlet's, so all that tubing & the pump
can be removed. Another thread show's how to select & re-route the serpentine.) Will probably wrap the headers, & fab some kind of insulator for the a-c box. That's the plan, bound by time & money. Fortunately, this is a run-about for the wife, so I don't need it mon-fri.

Good luck...

I'll be using the 3704 intake, you can order the AFR heads with the late model intake bolt pattern. So there's no problem there. You can also retain the EGR with them. It's just going to be opening up the holes for the TB in the intake and trying to port match it that'll get on my nerve.
Next week the crank is getting turned and the engine is getting punched .030 over, so there's the start. Then I'll get to order my bearing kit and I'm getting a deal on new main, head, and intake bolts from a friend.
