tbi with edelbrock air gap?
hey guys, anyone expierience with an LO3 with a performer rpm air gap? if it would work well, what would be the best manifold to run with TBI... my set-up is gonna be...
ultimate TBI mods, 081 ported/polished heads, hooker 2055's to a highflow cat/ SLP LM1 catback modified to fit a 3rd gen, upgraded 255 fuel pump, custom chip, and a good ol' K&N...

You'll have some fun getting a performer RPM to fit under a stock hood. As of right now I haven't heard of anyone doing it, from my measurements it's gonna be very tough. Your best bet might be to use a hat style intake with the filter in the fender or somewhere out of the way, but even then I'm not completely sure it would clear.
A comment on the air gap syle intakes. TBI is very suceptible to icing over the throttle blades if allowed to get too cold. The air gap adds to this, what happens is that when fuel or any liquid is decompressed it gets cold, mix that with some cold air and you have a recipe for ice on the throttle blades. If you live in a warm part of the states or only drive your car in the summer it won't be a problem.

The only person I can think of off the top of my head to use an Airgap on a tbi motor is Z28boy.I think he had pretty good success with it.

I'm wanting to run the Holley 4-Barrel with the standard (NON Air-Gap) Performer RPM intake and keep the stock Formula 'Power Bulge' hood. I started a thread in the Carb forum.

And I have recently been reading this thread.

It seems like every person you ask says something different. As far as "YES, it will work" versus "NO, it won't work" it is about 50/50. I would really like to know before I invest in the intake. I tried measuring using the specs provided by Edelbrock. It is very close. But I can't tell for sure. PLUS, there are so many drop-base air cleaners available, that it is impossible to tell which will work best without buying all of the pieces and trying them.
Is there anyone out there that has the definitive answer and not just a "should fit" or "probably won't fit" answer?

I have the edlebrock airgap vortec manifold with 2 inch adater. Have an open air element on and hood closes. I did trim the stud for the air cleaner.
