New to TBI
Hello all,
I just bought a 1991 Camaro RS, 305 TBI, T5 Trans and 153,000 miles
Never owned a TBI car before so its ALL new to me.
Anyway I've been searching everything and I have learned quite a bit from the information I've found. The car has some issues to work out, nothing I cant handle though. Allready done the tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter) and I'm running injector cleaner as we speak. Will be changing the fuel filter next. The point if this post is to pick everbodys brains for what they know. If there's anything thats not that commonly known, or would be hard to find doing a search, I'd like to know. Also any advise on what would be the best begining modifications would be greatly apreciaated. And try to think if there's any trouble areas (engine, trans, electrical, suspension, body, ect.) that I should keep an eye on.
Thanks alot,
Max

Off the top of my head: Learn to tune the computer ...you'll need it. If you're going to be making a ton of torque (especially with that 383) you'll need to beef up your rear end. Don't skimp on the transmission. If you lower your car get relocation brackets for the lower control arms.

I'd change the rear-end oil and throw a flat base open element on it first off...

I didn't see headers on your list and that had to be the best performance mod I made to my RS. Not to mention the improvement in sound especially since youv'e improved the rest of your exhaust already. If you want to stay emissions legal there are many companies that sell shorty headers with the necessary air tubes; Hooker, Heddman, SLP, and Edelbrock to name a few. Make sure you get the ones for the 86-90 TPI cars as they have bigger collectors and the y-pipe has a 3inch outlet. If your current stuff is not 3 inches any competent exhaust shop can adapt to fit or you could clamp in the necessary adapter, But I suggest going 3 inch all the way back if you haven't already.

I don't understand why people fight TUNING. It is just stupid to fight it, there is power on the table in even the stock chip. Those 1/2 *** mail order tunes aren't good either.

all i have in my car is 1.5 roller rockers, open air element, exhaust with headers, suspension all around, and a centerforce clutch and my car does preaty good. im not going to tune or cam cuz i want a 350 but its worth it! you can get a fun amount of power out of them but it takes time and alot of work.
