TBI manifold for GM vortech crate engine

I talked to SDPC today and they said there is supposed to be a new TBI manifold coming out that will fit the vortech heads. Anyone know anything about this manifold? Does it have 2" bores and will it fit inside a 3rd gen hood? Does it have all the stock accessory stuff on it? They guy at SDPC said he thought so but wasn't sure . Thought you guys might have some insight......

theres no sense in that for someone looking for performance, just bolt on the carb manifold and an adapter

Well, everything is going pretty good, but I haven't gotten a chance yet to get a new O2 sensor. I'm thinking that's my idle problem maybe? When it's in open loop it runs great, but once it warms up the idle is all over the place. From 400 to 1000 rpms. I changed the TPS and IAC and checked the MAP sensor with no success. I still need to get a custom chip or learn how to do it myself though. It runs really rich. Other than that it pulls strong and I got to take out a 99' SS last week. What a nice feeling

Birmass, what intake and TBI did you use?
Any problems with clearance, accessories, fuel lines and throttle linkage??
Sure appreciate the help cause I am headed for the vortech with a TBI unit in a 91 convert. Thanks

Hey. I used the Edelbrock 2116 performer carb intake with the Holley carb. to TBI adapter plate. The adapter has the 2 inch bores for the 670 TBI which I used. Be careful with clearance of the airfilter. You won't be able to use the stock assembly. I have a 9.5 inch diameter open element that is a total of 3 inches high. It clears fine, but watch out for wider diameter elements. Assecories all bolted up easily, but I couldn't use the alternator mounting brace that attaches to the intake manifold. The fuel lines worked perfectly, but the throttle linklage had to have new holes drilled into it to be at the right distance. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me or post it here for others to see.

Birdmass, I had a similar problem with my 4bbl setup. It turned out to be a bad injector, watch the injector spray carefully when its acting up. Mine didnt have a problem until the car warmed up (about the time it went into closed loop) if that does not point to the problem, disconnect your IAC and see if your surge goes away. If you get your idle rpm set properly, you can run it w/o an IAC. This is actually the only way to go with radical setups.

Birmass...I had that same problem when I did my engine swap..what i did was switch the two TPS wires (the two that aren't the grounds) and it fixed my idle. the tps that came on my throttle body were opposite of my factory tps. same exact thing as you describe happened to me when i put my motor in. check my signature for my setup. it sounds pretty similar to yours.

Hmmmmm..... That's interesting. I changed the O2 sensor and that didn't work so I figured that my cam is messing up my MAP sensor, but if your idea works I'll be a very happy person. Thanks!

Well, Instead of switching the wires, I put the original TPS on the Holley and it did the exact same thing. Whne I first start up it's great, but after driving around the idle still goes berzerk. It's is a pretty big cam compared to the stock TBI cam. My thought is that my MAP sensor is getting too much of a different vacuum signal because of the cam. I guess I gotta figure out how to get a new custom chip in there. I'd like to do it myself in the future, but I would like to get it running better for now because I don't really have the time energy with college in full swing. I heard Howell EFI does a chip for my car. Anybody have experience with them? Thanks.

Oh yeah, I tried unplugging the IAC, but it still fluctuated and ran like crap when I got on it.

hmmmm...... What do you guys think of this? This was in the trans tech section.

"My car has the electronic speed sensor & the tranny is a cable. If you car has an electronic speed sensor, make sure you find an electronic speed sensor from a V6 tranny & install it in your "new" tranny or you will stall at every stop being the car will have to "hunt" for an idle being it does not know what speed the car is at."

After I think of it, I don't think my car had the bad idle before I did the t56 swap and I haven't gotten a calibration box for my speedo yet so I haven't plugged my speedo in yet. What confuses me is that it runs fine when I first start it up, but after I drive even after a quarter of a mile the idle starts to act up. But if I don't move the car it will idle fine forever - even after it warms up. Any ideas?
