Issues, Need help!

So we bought a 1989 RS yesterday and in the ad it said bad fuel pump. So we get the car home and my dad turns the key and notices that the fuel pump is running fine. Super. So there is something else

We changed the inline fuel filter and we're still having problems getting gas from the tank to the Injectors so.. We did some tests, called some people.. and we haven't had much luck.

If you rip the fuel line, the fuel pump is running gas out of the tank, It is hitting the filter and going through. If you pour gas on the thing, it will start up and run, until running out of gas.

Today we changed the "Igntion Modual" and still had no luck

Does anyone here have any advice as to what to ccheck, or what the problem could be?

sounds like the pump if you take the air cleaner off and watch the injector pod you should be able to see it spray gas into the motor when you turn it over if not then it is time for a new pump!

Even if you see gas, it is no proof. You need to check the pressure. In stock form, there is not fuel pressure port though. Since it runs with gas being poured in, it is fuel related. If you are mechanical at all (it sounds as though you are), you can pull the tank and put a new pump in, in 3-4 hours.

That is an option in the long run, but we really do not think that its the fuel pump. You can hear the fuel pump running, when you turn the car on. I'm looking for other things that it might possibly be, and if all else fails, we could redo the fuel pump...

the problem is these pumps dont always just die some times they fade out
they make some pressure but not as much as needed for the injectors to work correctly

also just check the injectors see if there spraying

if they are not spraying check the fuel system psi as just to make sure

as dropping the rear and tank seem like a big pain just to change the fuel pump

Don't rule it out, it may not be making pressure, or pumping much of any fuel. heck, even the sock filter could be clogged, so it isn't picking any fuel up. Or in the case of my last fuel issue, the rubber connector for the pump to the fuel line system burst.

It is obviously fuel related. There isn't a lot to the fuel systems in these cars. I would test the fuel pressure, if it is not rock solid at 12psi, I would start looking at the pump.
