I'm totally for open elements. They draw so much more air than dual snorkels that they more than make up for the higher temperature air that they draw. You'll notice a marked increase in top end power and a definite increase in the cool sounds coming from under the hood. Make sure you get a non-drop base open element, a 14 x 3" filter for it, and remove the spacer ring from the TBI when you install it. Also get a breather for the passenger side valve cover to replace the PCV hose. And obviously plug the vacuum line for the thermac.

the edelborck air cleaner I got at first was a drop base. Lifting a drop base air cleaner with a space ring is so idiotic words have no meaning. I took it back and got a PAW one for $17

Don't forget to relocate the IAT sensor. I located mine to behind the headlights. Cooler air there.

Get a Mr. Gasket open element, valve cover breather and a 14x3' paper air filter. Don't waist your money on K&N.

I finally got a K&N after getting tired of replacing ugly *** paper ones(they look really bad by the time you're supposed to change them). I got the open element with paper at first because it was only $17. All those replacements add up.
