Hello my friend,

14x2.25 is #KNN-601263
14x3 is #KNN-601280

As for which one, I went with the 14x2.25 because my spacer was 1 inch high (should be .5 inch high) and the wingnut would hit the top of the hood. If you don't have a spacer then get the 14x3. And in the future, if you want to get a spacer, make sure you get one that is half a inch high ok? Help this helps.

Hey thanks!
I still have a couple more questions though.
Did u have to plug or relocate any sensors or anything like that into the new open element?
I need to keep it emisions legal. Damned NY laws!!!
And how did u plug that tube that goes from the stock exhaust manifold into the stock air cleaner assembly inlet?
Thanks

are those flat based? if not I wouldn't get one. you need to plug the tube coming from the bottom of the TBI. I just put a bolt in it. I keep my stock cleaner in the garagefor inspections every 2 years. There is one sensor ont he bottom. I think the K&Ns have a place for it. I just put mine on a spark plug wire in the back of my engine.

Yeah, the K&N's have a place to put that sensor, (I belive its the IAC?) But all you do is drill the hole that have pre-dented for you and put it in there. Thats what I did. Oh and with these Open elements you can take that gold ring out from the tbi unit. You will know what I am talking about when u see it and just tighten it down onto the tbi. Thats what I did.

The tube that goes from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner inlet is a heat riser hose. Just yank that thing off.
The sensor your referring to isn't the IAC, it's a air temperatur sensor, I don't quit remember it's exact name. You can just relocate that somewhere else. you'll have to plug the vaccuum line coming from the TBI that went up to the air cleaner's thermac valve too since the open element won't have that.
BTW, the IAC is the Intake Air Control valve, it's what controls the engine's idle air supply, and it's located on the TBI itself, Eric

Thanks Duke, I knew it was something like that. Guess I should lay off the MGD for a little bit.

Just one more question.
If i yank that hose off that goes from the exhaust manifold into the stock airbox, wouldnt the exhaust now just come straight into my engine bay????:confused

no. that is just a heat riser not an exaust riser. it is a T pipe type thing that channels the heat from around the manifold into the snorkel of the stock air cleaner.

3 posts in one week of people completely confused about how to put an open element on.

I think somebody should make an extensively descriptive tech article.

I'll do tomorow.

I got a tech article: go to the store, buy one, get a flat based one, put it on in the parking lot, relocate sensors, plug the vaccume line on the front of the TBI, leave the tube in the valve cover or buy a breater to replace it, don't leave the lot till its done. If it doesn't fit then take it back. I went through 3 3rd times the charm

I think everybody who has a TBI wants to do this mod (me included) the problem is that we generally know what we want to do but don't know how to get there... things like part numbers would be GREAT and specific dimensions as were mentioned earlier like the size of the element, the air filter, etc. And I haven't seen an article yet that has detailed what to do with the thermac line, air temp sensor or the PCV valve. And lots and lots of pics!!

the best way to learn is to jump in with both feet. If you make a mistake then you won't do it again. No amout of details will cover EVERY situation. and all those other corny saying....

I'm about to swap mine for an open element, and a tech article would certainly help, especially with pics, so I know what an IAC is and what to do with the darn thing. This will be my first mod, along with new headers (what kind do you recommend) and a Flowmaster cat-back. I don't know what to do with my cat though. I need it to be legal, but it takes up too much power, should I get a new one?? (emmissions is in January). What about rear end?

I can take some pics this weekend and post them. It really isn't that hard. Took me about 10 minutes I think, it wasn't long. I will try to get some pictures if someone doesn't do it by the end of the week
