Trouble after installing edelbrock performer..

It backfires (TBI and exaust) above 3500 rpm, and dosent have much power.
My timing is correct. Should I bump up the fuel pressure? The only thing i left out was the EGR. It didnt work anyway, so I used the EGR block. I wasn't shure where to post this, any Ideas?

First, did you unplug the EST wire before setting the timing? If not then your timing is way off. Are you getting any codes set when it starts doing all this? If so it is probably the 42 code which is your timing being way off. Unplug that wire (located on the passenger's side firewall sticking out of the main engine wiring harness..should be brown with a weather connector on it). Unplug the battery after setting the timing to clear the 42 code that is set when you unplug this wire. If not this then...

Are you positive you have the distributer back where it needs to be? It sounds like the distributer is slightly off and may need to be pulled back out and turned one way or the other slightly. How about the sparkplug wires..none on the incorrect cylinder? All the vacumn lines plugged from where you removed the EGR valve and the ones going to the EGR solenoid? All vacumn lines hooked up where you unplugged them from the TBI and the manifold? The MAP sensor vacumn line should be going to the back of the TB. Did you hook the graound wires back up to the back manifold bolt on the passenger side?

I'm still aiming towards the distributer...how did you mark it before taking it out of the stock manifold? You can check to make sure the rotor button is pointing towards the number one cyclinder after you turned it over and the No. 1 cylider reaches TDC. Pull the No. 1 sparkplug and place your finger over the hole (covering it up) while a friend bumps the ignition over very little at a time until you feel air blow out the hole. This will let you know when the No. 1 piston has reached TDC. Your rotor button should now be pointing at the No. 1 cylinder....if not your distributer wasn't put back in correctly.

Lot of questions but maybe one will ring a bell and help you out.
