"The TBI computers do not adapt to changes very well. And you can not even program them for the changes, it just does not work."

this is a quote from the tpis site. i have a feeling they are gonna be very little help. i will find out when/if they answer my email.

i need a chip too...what do you guys think as far as getting the car dynoed before the chip is burned??

is it absolutely necessary? i dont think there are any places in my are (or even my state) that do this, so getting a dyno run may be out of the question.

who is the best company to go for when you have to supply them information? ed wright?

i just got an email back from superchips. they send a form to you that allows you to spell out every detail of your engine. the price isn't bad either, they want $199 for a chip plus $125 for the custom tuning. with all the engine info they are asking for i figure they should be able to come up with an accurate fuel/timing map.

NJ speeder, Do you know for sure that the TBI
8746 ECM doesn't work well with custom chips?
I would be curious to know why TPIS thinks TBI computers cant be programed. I know some guys have changed to other ECM's most notable the truck 7747, but I thought it was due to it being "hacked to death" not because the 8746 ECM
can't work with a custom chip. I would suggest you guys try Howells EFI or ED Wright automotive. Do a search on the Prom board, I have seen the addresses and phone numbers for both companies........bob

There was a whole thread on the TPIS page comments where a tpis tech showed up

basically, those comments have 0 foundation in reality, only foundation they have is in selling more tpi products (you make more money that way if your company specializes in it)

Custom chips are a waste of money for the most part, theres nothing custom about them, imagine mail ordering a custom tailored suit with only a description of what you look like for the taylor to use to make the suit, wouldnt be a very good suit, same goes for those "Custom" chips

they prolly only say this because they want to sell tpi parts. i got an email back from tpis today and they suggested calling up howell, they even gave me the number. they tech guy also was nice enough to congratulate me on my et with a 305.
