Please help with gauge problem

Hi Guys. I have a question. I just got for christmas some gauges and I have a question about hooking one of them up. It is an electrical water temp gauge. It wants me to pull out the water temp sensor on the manifold and hook this one up. I can't do that. When that happens the car doesn't run right and the ces light comes on. That is apparently an important sensor. (is there realy such a thing anyway...) I just wondered if I could splice into one of the wires for that sensor for this application. Anyone have one of these? How did you hook it up? Thanks guys.

Eric

You pulled the wrong sensor, that sensor is used by the ECM. The gauge sensor is between plugs 1 & 3 of the driver side cyl head.

I knew that. I am a retard. Is there a way to hook up them both? Can I splice into those wires somehow to get the other one working also? I was hoping to have them both working. Thanks.

Hook both what up?

Leave the coolant temp sensor in the intake alone or put it back if you removed it. Put the new sender in the cyl head.

Dude,

I am not drilling into the head to hook up a 30 dollar temp gauge. If I can use the existing senders that is what I will and want to do. If not, I am not hooking them up.

your missing the point. what hes saying is there is already a gauge sensor mounted in the drivers side head. remove that sensor and install your new one in the same hole. no drilling no tapping just replacing one with another. someone is going to rag you hard about this one im sure.

I understand that. Realy I do. What I am saying is that I want them both to work. I can splice into them. No problem. I just needed to know which ones they are. I have now found (I think) the water sender. However I have yet to find the oil one. I was told it is by the oil filter. However all I see is the sensor for the ecm. It has 3 wires on it. It should only have one on the sender...correct? I have been under there 50 times and cannot find it. I even pulled the motor when I put on hte headers and had to have removed it to pull it. I just need to find it.

there is no oil sender for the ecm, theres only one oil sending switch and that is above the oil filter, long black thing with a plug on the end also serves as a secondary relay for the fuel pump (maybe i shouldnt say that itll probably confuse you just ignore it)

You basically have a couple choices for the water temp gauge, either remove the sender and install the new sender with the new gauge and leave the old gauge non functioning, or find another spot on your intake manifold where you can screw the sender in (i think theres only one spot on a stock intake manifold)

I do not think the stock sending switch with the stock gauge will work for both gauges or vice versa, but you should call the gauge manufacturer and find out. But really, how many water temp gauges do you need?

and i sincerely hope you didnt pull your engine just to install headers

I just made a t connection today to the oil sending unit. It is hooked up and ready to test it out (too late tonight to continue) And yes...I pulled the motor to install headers. That is why I am so mad about these gauges. I pulled the motor, installed the headers, and put it all back together in one day. These gauges have taken me a whole week!!
