My first TBI...

I just purchased a '91 Camaro RS last week. I've owned several carbed Camaros and my last one was TPI. I'm not overly impressed by the power of the bone stock LO3. Is it worth my time and money to modify this engine or should I switch to TPI or carb? What is the most I can expect from this engine? I was very impressed by the power I was able to make with simple bolt ons on my '85 LB9.

simple bolt ons can get the car into the 14's, a lot more is possible with a common stuff like intakes and heads.

I'm still leaning towards TPI. Does TBI have as much (more?) potential as TPI?

what do u think TPI is going to give u? When it came from the factory (in 85) that 305 got a different cam, heads and exahsust. so the change from TBI to TPI is really not worht the money. If u want to wake up ur car put a set of gears in it. I mean u only have a 2.73 rear end, imagine the pull with 3.73s inplace of them

I've got an '85 Z28 with a TPI 305, so I know what it can do. It does have 3.23s however, which makes for a better launch than 2.73s. Yeah, a posi rear with taller gears is in my RS's future.

When does simple bolt ons get u into 14's? LO3's are very unpretictable engines. Some run 15.9-16.3 stock in the 1/4 mile and some run high 16's low 17's. Simple bolt ons aren't going to knock off a full second on the 1/4 mile or more. U will need more than that. I admit there are some fast stock LO3's, like urs used to be NJ, but urs is a rare case. Most of us start in the mid 16's with our cars.

i think i got the fastest stock l03. he, but ive never been to the track, ever. so i can think that as long as i want to. Cuz when i go to the track, its not gona be stock no more. tpi is expensive, and harder to tune, in my opinion. tbi is comparativly cheap, and easy to tune. it is a step up from carb. if tuned right. tpi i think might hold a better flatter curve, but all in all. whether carb, tbi, or tpi. you can make em all work great.

TPI or TBI, your limited by 2" butterflies. If you need more the 700 CFM then the EFI starts getting $, but so does a good 750 Carb, and the carb will be hard to get as well calibrated as EFI, and you just can't do as much with a none ecm controlled dist.
