Towing of a MT, '90 RS

Hello,

I used to lurk around here because I'm just a fan of the Camaros, had a '73 a long time ago... Now, I have the opportunity to pick up a '90 RS w/T-Tops, 5 speed, and 305 TBI... Thing is, it's in another town and currently won't start (cranks but won't turn over, I assume ignition or fuel), so it'd have to be towed. It's probably about 35-40 miles from here so hiring a tow truck would be half the cost of the car, so it isn't going to happen. I am considering just renting a 2 wheel car dolly to tow it with my Ram 1500, but I wanted to see if someone could answer a question for me... I know the rule of thumb is not to tow a car (mainly AT) for more then a short distance on it's drive wheels w/o disconnecting the driveshaft. On this car, would it be safe in neutral to tow it that distance on the rear wheels w/o dropping the driveshaft if it's (obviously) in neutral?

Any advice appreciated,
Warren

I rented a car trailer from U-Haul last month. I returned it the same day and it was $54. Have a buddy help you push it up there or use a come along and then you don't have to disconnect anything.

You can tow a man trans car w/o unhooking the shaft with no problem since there is no pump in the trans like a AT car. If it was me I would unhook the shaft to be 100% safe.

Re: Towing of a MT, '90 RS

towed my ta but then again it didnt have a transmission, but i also towed a 95 ta manual no problems except for a flat tow dolly tire. and yes some 18-28" 2x6 would be helpful because these cars are really low.

Re: Towing of a MT, '90 RS

It is only a $10 difference between the car dolly and full trailer. A lot easier to not have to get under it and disconnect anything, and just use a full trailer. My
