What Ill-Effects will be caused if I remove my Smog system
(That black box on the passenger side with the lines coming out of it)
I saw I post on underhood cleanup where he had capped the lines off. I have to meet E-test standards. Will I get a SES light or anything if I completly remove this system?
Thanks all

The AIR system doesn't effect your emissions after warm up. All it does it heats your cats up quicker during a cold start-up. The only way you would fail would be if they decided to do a under-hood inspection and I never seen a inspection station do that personally here. I don't know about where you live.
Power gains of removing it:
-NONE.
Pro's of removing it:
-Less clutter around the engine
-weight reduction (although not much)
-You find out that you have a passenger side valve cover
Few tips when you do it:
-1/2 inch female pipe caps from Home Depot or Lowe's work well on the AIR tubes that come off the exhaust manifolds.
-You need to pinch, or cap off the tube that goes to the catalytic converter
-belt rerouting must be done. If i can remember right (its been years) but i think its a 96.5" 6 ribbed belt.
-Belt must go from crank, to A/C, under tensioner, around the power steering, around the water pump, back to the crank
-Invest in a decent set of torx bits to get the pump off..

If you remove it you won't pass Ontario Emissons Test that you have to get every two years. Also if the MOT pulls you over, they will pull the plates on the spot if it is missing. If you are thinking that it won't matter in a few years because your car will more than 20 years and exempt.........well they are looking at canceling the exempt! Too many old cars getting modified. And the MOT syas this is NOt a $$ grab...........SURE!
You could try to reroute the hoses and box to lower down or reroute the battery to the trunk and route the emmissions to over to where the battery would have been.....just a suggestion.............I am in the same boat myself and my mechanic and I are having discussion on this.
