The tech board never helps, please help
Okay guys, this is my new problem. First off it's the 330hp crate engine with vortec heads. I wanted to get the rpm air gap just because of the future when I swap cams and make 380hp and 415 ft-lbs (compcam 122422). Anyways, you guys talk about the drop base air cleaner. My BIG problem is that I'm using the holley 670cfm TB and a 1/2" adaptor plate. I have the 5.0ho dual snorkel drop base air cleaner right now. Is that all the drop I need or what? Please Please help me, just give me an air cleaner that'll drop it low enough to fit under the stock hood.
One more thing. Is that 1000cfm edelbrock triangle looking air filter an option? It would be temporary. I'll be getting the ss hood this summer.

that triangle thing is crap. Its foam and will break apart and fall in your engine. why not get a cowl hood? my original open element was 14x2-1/8 non drop base. that might fit. I got it in paper so I could figure out how high I could go before I got a k&n. I went from 14x2-1/8 to 14x3 eventually but I needed a longer carb stud since the top was barely conical.

drop base with spacer ring and 2.5 inch filter should fit. its not a big problem, youll just have to try a few, no matter what, its solvable after you drop in the engine.
I'm also very interesed in finding out how this will come out as I am putting a 350vortec engine with the rpm airgap manifold in my 91RS. I am contenplating a shaker type hood scoop. I just hate to think about cutting a hole in the hood. But I think it would look as good as it works. There is something about seeing you engine shaking or torqueing side to side when you rap the gas real quick.

A shaker hood on a thirdgen 'maro??? hmmm that'd be different, but I bet it would be cool. If you do it post pics. If you're unsure about cutting your's, a stock flat hood in a junkyard usually only goes for $40-$50, so cut it, and if doesn't look like you expected it to, put your old one back on

Okay, you guys all say solvable AFTER the engine is in. What you don't understand is I'm 540 road miles away from home/camaro right now. I'm at school and over spring break I need to get the engine in and have her running and get her back to school. Keyword being "have," I'm working out in Columbus part time during spring quarter and then full time during the summer. So I would like to have all the parts at my house so I can just put the darn thing in and be done with it until I get it back to Ohio. So with that said. Where can I get a drob base cleaner with a 2"/2.5" element and a smaller carb stud? If you guys could get that info or tell me that that POS edelbrock is a sure fit that'll work for a 540mile drive :-)
Thanks
