changing fuel pump

I have just diagnosed my fuel pump to be bad. I would hear it run from time to time and now i don't hear it at all, which would explain all my problems. Is there an easier way of changing it without having to drop the tank or do you have to do it by the book? Has anyone done this before? I 'll check all the wires before i start digging into the fuel tank.

the only other way to do it is too cut a big a$$ hole in the rear pan of the car and make a trap door for it. that would be just as much work.
i have been down this road in a friends car before and my only suggestion is to take your time. it is a giant PITA.

I think cutting the whole sounds pretty good to me, since i don't have a garage (the car is on the street). And i do have a dremel. Can you tell me where exactly i should cut it at?

Why not? I don't know about a dremel, but i've heard of it being done before. It would be a hell of a lot easier then taking the whole tank out of there. And also, i've had my hooker aerochamber exhaust welded together so i really wouldn't want to cut into that.

I wouldn't drill anything by myself (where there might be sparks). I thought you could get to the pump under the back seat but I was wrong. The Haynes manual says you have to take out the whole tank. But it gives good instructions and u should be able to do it. If not get one of those higher flowing drop in pumps (made for our TBI's) now incase you plan on doing any more mods. Post results!

I saw this pump in some online catalog and it was especially for our TBI cars. Because after we do all these mods we are so starved for fuel. I can't remeber where I saw it but I am determined to find it and let you know ASAP! Oh and it was only like $130 so well worth it!
