they have a new intake out for the Vortec heads...and it is for TBI!

it looks just like the edelbrock intake, as far as the mounting area goes...it has a "box" type thing under where the throttle body bols to.

has anyone seen this intake or know anything about it? i wonder if it has the 2" bores or the 1 11/16" bores. i'm sure it is the smaller ones, but who knows.

well, it does have provisions for EGR, so i guess it is "more" emissions legal. i know that in NY, no matter what you do as long as it is a different motor it is emmissions illegal.

i guess the EGR could do it, but it probly depends on what you consider "legal".

i want to put some vortecs on my 305 tbi but only if emissions legal

 

I have been waiting for this manifold to be shipped for about 2 months. To my knowledge no one has them in stock yet but if anyone knows anything to the contrary let me know.
I understand it has the smaller bores and it has a provision for an egr which is run off the exhaust manifold just like the truck version. I am curious to see how much of a bolt on this is, ie fuel lines, accelerator bracket mounting, AC bracket support etc.
It is legal in colorado as long as you have a functioning egr and it passes, they don't care how you run it. I don't know about other states. It is expensive, SDPC quoted me a price of $327 but they said they were not sure of final pricing. If all the stuff for out F bodies will bolt on, this will be a great option for a engine swap..........

the guy that i get all my GM parts from gives me the list price, not the retail, so i will talk to him asap and see what their "cost" is. he is the parts manager of a local chevy dealer. that should give us a good idea of what it will run.

This might just be my answer for an intake system that'll clear the stock hood. I'm very excited, if it comes out it better be down near $200. Or I'll just buy an air gap for $210 and an adaptor plate for $43. I would just prefer to get everything under the stock hood without having to get tricky on the air cleaner drop base etc.

It is the EGR, the third hole is the coolant temp sensor. I've seen it, its a worked over Edelbrock. I'm underwhelmed.

GhoSSt, I have looked at the edelbrock non vortec TBI and everything will bolt right on to it, at least I think it will. Does new GM vortec TBI look like its the same as far as
bolting on the stock stuff like AC support bracket, throttle linkage bracket etc?
I Looked at the picture and it sure looks like it has all the right holes etc. Sure appreciate your thoughts on installation, performance issues notwithstanding.......bob

 

Hey, for anyone who is interested, I talked to SDPC today and they had one of the vortec TBI manifolds in stock. They opened it up for me and it has 1 11/16 holes. We compared it to the edelbrock and the stock manifold on my 91 and it has everything except for the power brake vacuum port on the front. So, you would have to reroute your vacuum line to the rear. Also, the vortec manifold bolts are at an almost verticle angle( you guys knew that, I didn't) when compared to the angle for the non/vortec manifold bolts which means that many of the brackets will have to be modified especially the throttle bracket.
I am still looking at the brackets to see how much of a pain it will be to do a good job modifying them. Any thoughts let me know.

i had to modify mine...her is a pic...



i had to screw around with teh holes and bend the bracket a little bit. the galvanized piece of metal you see there is a brace to keep it from moving.
