Don't buy an off the shelf chip. Spend the money to buy the Moates Burn 1, the flash chip adapter, some flash chips and a spare ECM. It will end up costing a little more, but you can go alot further with it.

I would get away from the 1988 ECM, it is not as well documented as the TBI truck ecms or the 1989-1992 TBI car ecms.

2 years ago i knew nothing about burning my own chips, but i can do it now.
all it takes is a little reading, well, lots of reading, when you get hung up on something, some more reading, if your still hung up, ask about it.
you can do so much more when you burn your own, you'll have a better overall running car, better fuel mileage, & you can say you did it your self.
with mail order, you make a change to your motor, you order a new chip & hope its right, doing it yourself you don't have to wait for 2 weeks to get the new chip.
also, the mail order chips do little to nothing for part throttle or cruise, if they do anything at all, its at WOT, & most times get it wrong, very wrong.

if you read the stickies over in DYI PROM & then "Come in for a FREE tune" by BMmonteSS here in TBI, i think you'll understand more than what most of the people who do mail order chips do, & that includes JET & Hypercrap.

and even sometimes your horse will really be you running with two coconuts banging
it takes alott of reading though, you probably should read each section a couple of times its a very complicated subject but the results of burning your own chips are worth the time

sometimes the writings you seek are on cave walls written in aeramatheic,THATS how much reading you'll have to do. i cant help myself...
and to the previous poster, id really like to see two coconuts banging, i was under the impression they were inanimate but seeing as they migrate from tropical climates to temperate zones i suppose they could procreate as well, be an interesting screensaver..

when tuning you simply have to ask yourself three questions,,
what is your name?(login name on TGO, otherwise we cant help you)
What is your quest?(What the crap are you asking us to help you with)
What is your favorite color?(on a thirdgen, better be black with red stripes!)

god, has there ever been such a quotable movie
