Due to lack of reponse on the exhaust board... I'm thinking of doing a full on engine-back exhaust.

I'll do flowmaster muffler with catco, 3" pipes and hooker competitions headers.

Does this sound good for an exhaust set-up on a 91' RS (v8)? What can i expect in terms of extra HP/torque and how much time can i shave off my 1/4 and 0-60MPH?

My car is totally stock right now. As for coating i'll just do my own rust coat like www.por15.com. Are these all the parts i need? Where can i find a decent y-pipe?

What about noise? I don't want it to be really loud. I want to be able to carry on a conversation in the car, or listen to my stereo. It's till my daily driver so i don't want it to be annoying-ly loud. Basically, i want it to be a low rumble at idle, and want it to roar on WOT.

Crap... So the regular Hooker comps aren't street legal?

Anyone recommend a decent set of street legal headers for under $200?

sorry mac, you're not going to find new 50 state legal headers for under $300. The headmans are $300 with Y-pipe but after seeing my Hookers, the only other headers I'd get would be SLPs. Good luch finding a good GP with those . Maybe you can find some used headers? Edelbrocks used to be in the classified section periodicly.

just remembered another alternative. You can get some TPI exaust manifolds, polish them, and use a $200 SLP Y pipe with them.

let us know how that por-15 works
I have thought bout doing that myself

the flowtech dont have the air pipes(i think)

acording to car craft a mild 350 gained a little hp from 1 1/2 primaires(flowtechs size)against the usaul,I think they 'll be just fine for my 305...and there lke 200 bux with the y pipe , the y pipe is 3" at the cat connection....according to pep boys

If you aren't getting SLP then get the cheapest you can find. At least that is what I would do, I would look for 1 5/8" prim though. I've seen the quality of the headman (ordered them for my 86 when I was OBLIVIOUS to the workings of a car) and they really aren't that bad. The y-pipe is very nice and the headers are headers, nothing cheap about them except for the material they're made of (and that crap paint that was sticking to my fingers...hmmm.... ). The headman can come with the air if you want. Anothe alternative is to just get the w/o AIR and have a local shop weld in a bung into one of the pipes on each side. It might not pass a visual but I don't see why it wouldn't. As long as the air is injected a good distance from the cat it should work just as well. The new LS1 headers have the single pipe AIR injection. That's just an option. Another option is to work your *** off and save up for another couple of weeks and just spit up the money for edelbrocks or SLP (stainless, doesn't need coating ).

There is a group purchase going on right now for the slp's on the GP section in this site. I just ordered ordered a set of 1 5/8 w/o air for 375. Normally they would cost close to 500, and like mentioned above, they don't need coating since they're stainless steel. They are currently waiting for a couple more poeple to complete the 6 person group purchase, so hurry so i can get my headers already!!!

You don't "need" to coat any headers realy. There are 3 reasons for coating any header: 1. to prevent rust. SLPs do that naturaly with their stainless steel which is rust resistant. 2. To keep in heat with the ceramic coating to help expell the gasses as quick as possible. SLPs are no better at this than a regular steel header. So if that is your purpose, SLPs would need to be coated. 3. So insualte heat from the engine bay. The same principals apply as in #2 but with a different goal in mind.

So SLPs are not the key to aviod coating unless #1 is your only goal. If I missed anyting don't hesitate to say. I just woke up so I might not be firing on all cylinders
