Heated O2 Sensor-What do you know?

I am adding headers and I heard that a heated O2 sensor will reduce the time the car takes to switch from warm up mode to normal operating mode. What O2 sensor do I need? Who makes it and what is the part number? Has anyone done this?

You should already have an 02 sensor if you have TBI. If you took it out then your car would be running like a ford (POS).

no...he knows he has an o2 sensor, he is asking about a heated o2 sensor.

they are out there man, but i dont think that they are that popular. they do work to get the car out of the "warm up" mode that you talked about. they are pretty expensive though. i was thinking about getting one for my car, but i think they were like 80-100 bucks. i thought SLP had one...maybe not though. i havent looked them up in a while. call summit or jegs...they will hook you up.

Hmm..that's funny because both my 86 and my 91 have the heated 02 sensor. I thought it might have come from the factory like that, my bad.
I should have seen the "heated" part, I read the post too fast.

Mid page there is the 3 wire sensor for $67. I'm not sure if that's over priced or not but I just ran into it so I thought I'd post a source.

I have a '91 with headers so I put a heated O2 sensor in it from a '91 Corvette. Everything worked out just fine. All you have to do is run a power and ground. They are about 50 bucks from any parts store.

Thanks a lot guys. I think I'll get one from my local parts store.

Does the engine idle down much quicker with the heated sensor? I hate the way it revs so high on cold starts.

Engine will rev up on cold starts the same way except it'll only last about 30 seconds compared to 90 with normal sensor. I guess when the previous owner gave me the car with the SLP headers he had the 3 wire sensor and through that into the whole package. My 86 maro didn't have headers but it had a 3 wire and I just replaced it with a single wire since it was such a POS anyways.
