Exhaust
This is an exhaust question, but limited to only 305 TBI's so im putting it in here.. I just want to know what kind of catback everyone is running.. whats the loudest one also, but a nice rumble, not some choppy nasty sounding exhaust.

Most L03 powered cars run a flowmaster setup. I recently got rid of a magnaflow setup and picked a dual chamber flowmaster and I am happy with the the performance it gave me. Just stay away from 3" systems, a 2 3/4" system is more than enough. Stock piping and an aftermarket muffler is fine. Also concider a high flow cat.

I like it and it sounds really nice and performs just as good.

Damn I'm running a Y-pipe that looks like that!? GAAA! No wonder this 305 seems like it should have more power.... Oh well I plan on ditching the crappy *** stock exhaust over the summer once i get a little $$ saved up again, I've only had the car like 2 1/2 weeks. Is there much difference from one brand of headers to another? I'm on a college freshman budget so I'd like to stay cheap. I'll probably just have a custom cat back made (ditch the cat and use a flowmaster muffeler, i have people who do this cheap). Its great living somewhere where nobody checks to see if you have cats!

i like my exhaust, it's not mellow or the least bit quite. i have edelbrock tes headers, a cat eliminator, and a borla cat back with no baffle plate in it. it sounds like open headers when i am on it. you can hear the car from the starting line when i go through the traps very clearly.

Please do get some sounds. I'm going to do the same thing. I don't know how I'll record it though, probably just a long microphone cord
. I don't have a laptop...sold the piece a while ago, it didn't have sound or anything (486 pos, nice TFT screen though but who needs when win3.1 all you could run).

2thpick just got a video camera, I'll get him to video my exhaust for us, well he already did, but I didn't get to see it yet.
Might get that on here as soon as tonight.

Here they are. I didn't rev it that high in either one. Probably about 3500-4000 in the one where I was sitting still(hooker.asf).
You can right click and choose "save as" to download. If anybody has trouble getting these tell me.

The muffler doesn't do anything for mine. It's the tips! Without the tips it's very quiet.
With the tips it's as loud as it was when it only had a intermidiate pipe full of holes and no muffler at all.
I have the stock converter(ungutted).

It sounds pretty good but every Formula should have 4thgen z28 tips. I LOVE the way mine looks.

please get a 3" or better, 2 3/4 is what is stock on many LB9 and L98 cars
I went to full edelbrock TES exhaust for an L98, headers, y, catback, all 3" and the car gained .5 in the quarter. This was back when i just had minor mods
I like the edelbrock sound its very rumbly, old school sounding.. polar opposite to the hollow tinny sound that flowmaster has, and unlike the flowmaster there is no crackle to it its just a deep rumble
ever since i did the engine work the car has gotten way loud its almost obnoxious. My 84 Z28 with just a flowmaster feels like a lexus compared to mine its so quiet.

Ok, are you ready for this....SLP 1-3/4 headers(yeah i know)Random tech 3" cat and flowmaster american thunder cat back.Runs a little lean(lol)but it's a 5spd,sounds mean as hell and pulls like a banshee to 6k rpm......i went ahead and got the 1-3/4 cause i dont want to have to buy headers again when i put a 400 plus hp engine in this summer......crazy hunh.....

Like kermit says,I would have to agree.I have the TES and a Dynomax 3" into a 2 chamber Flowmaster. The system is complemented by 2 1/2" Dynomax tips.
This is about as nasty of a system thst you could run on the street (IT BARKS!!!).
If I am correct, your orginal question was which system is the loudest. This would be it.
OH,I also have a 5-speed,when I first got the exhaust I did'nt listen to the stereo for three months,it sound that good.

hey Monster, did you buy the dynomax pieces speperatly or did you have the cat back and replace the dynomax muffler with a flowmaster one? If you got them seperatly, what are the part numbers, how much were they each, and where did you get them from? thanks a bunch.
