EGR & TBI
I'm building up a 350, and would like to stay with the TBI
induction/control system. All of the aftermarket performance
heads I've seen so far, none have the exhaust port on the
intake side. How important is this for normal operation?
Here in TX, we have sniffer inspections, but I don't know
HC & NO limits are. I'll be doing my own tuning/chip burning,
but is it possible to tune for inspections without EGR?
The idea of one chip for inspection, and another for the other
364 days is okay w/ me.

i dont know how it is over there, but here in Ca. a part of the emissions test involves a "visual test" which includes the egr. so basically, no egr, no pass

We have a visual test here in Texas as well. How thorough it is from place to place is another matter.
It's my understanding that some of these intakes can have the boss drilled out for EGR operation.

depending on how you build it, it may pass the tail pipe test without a working EGR valve.
you may also be able to pull a little timing in the chip to help keep NOx down.
also, it can depend on where you take it, there is a RPM range the emissions machine looks for, usually above about 1200 but below 2500 RPM. normally the higher RPM you can run during the test, the lower NOx is.
as far as the visual part of the inspection, the valve isn't checked to see if it works or not, just that it is there & hooked up & looks like it works.
