Open Air Element

Right now I have a SS hood on my Camaro and am having troubles finding an open air element that will fit perfectly in the raised portion of the hood. I know that a 9" open element will fit but wondering if that will be too small. Right now I have the stock air cleaner on there.

I have a mesh screen sort of thing with a filter behind it that kinda eliminates any water getting to the actual filter. Plus I will rarely, if ever drive this thing in the rain so that shouldn't be an issue.
