Just go to NAPA and get a starter cheaper. Then you use your money for a good mod.

the starter is what cranks the engine, if its not cranking or cranking slowly then its possible a starter is necessary.. but if its just taking alot of cranks, it could mean you just need a tune up or timing adjustment.
MSD doesnt really have much to do with how your car cranks up, the stock HEI is more than up to that task.

A new starter is a pain in the butt to put in. i replaced mine two months ago. it is hard to get out and hard to put in. dont replace the sarter unless it needs to be replaced. check your battery

my car does this sometimes even after a new starter. I dont think its anything really, i think it might have something to do with dirty injectors that makes it take an extra crank to start up. BTW manual tranny starters are more expensive so shop conservatively..

Fuel pump relay might be shot. If it is, fuel pump will only turn on when oil pressure rises, which is after extended cranking. Check to see if it is working? you should hear the fuel pump when the key is turned to "on" for a few seconds, then it will shut off. If you do not hear the pump at all, the FP relay is probably to blame. They go ALL THE TIME.

Happy.. Pablo's a strange cat. I've known him for a few years now. Give him time and before you know it he'll be your bitch.

Btw.. to the guy that said replacing a starter is hard! PFFT! Easy as pie! I can even do that and you can ask Pablo about my mechanical skills. Hey Happy if it is the Starter bring it over to Pablos we'll help you

To answer your question, your fuel pump relay is pretty cheap and easy to replace. Cost about 12 bucks for a borg warner at Hi-Lo and takes about 5 min to swap. Be warned; a day after my relay went out, my fuel pump went out.
