Is this normal?

My car is shifting at around 6000 RPM, sometimes more like 6200, and I'm running about a 10.2 in the 1/8. The only mods I've done are listed below. It sounds like it has a slightly bigger cam. Just wondered cause it's not supposed to shift that high or run that fast from what I understand. It's a good bit faster than my friend's RS of the same year. So is this normal or has the previous owner been under the hood? I average about 14 MPG too.

my 305/auto combo shifts at 5000 out of first and at around 4800 out of second
yours seems awfully high since the stock valve springs float at around there

6000 rpm for a mostly stock car is bad. i have alot of bolt on stuff and an aftermarket trans and when i floor it it shift at 5500 rpms. when my was mostly stock with the stock trans it shift at like 4500 or so. thats not really a good thing to be shifting that high

It only shifts that high at WOT. But like I said it sounds like it has a bigger cam than any other 305 I've heard and it will smoke my friends 91 RS with the same mods. I guess the last owner did something or I need to go to a trans shop or something. I had thought about buying a shift kit, one of the better $300 ones. Do you think I have a tranny problem? Slippage or something? I'm going to call up the guy who I bought the car from and ask him some questions. The only problem is that I'm the 3rd owner and the guy who owned it first lives in Virginia, or he did when he bought the car. No telling what he did to it.

Black Widdow, you asked "Slippage or something?" why don't YOU tell us if it is. It's easy to tell....does it sound like it's taking a while to shift? Also you have a flowblow, that could be why you think it's quicker. From my experience: If it looks stock, it's probably stock. Most people wouldn't think about changing the cam shaft if they haven't changed anything else noticable. The cam is usually something to do if you overhaul an engine and the block has low miles. Then and only sometimes do they put the whole thing back together with stock rusty parts .

Yeah, I thought about that. Usually if you change a cam something else it gonna be different too. But I dont think anything is. It has stock heads, the throttle body has no mods, and he sold it to me with the stock air-cleaner, which is the easiest thing to change to get a couple more horses. But I dont think my Blowmaster would make any difference, since my friends car has the same muffler, and air cleaner. The cars are prett much idnetical except for color. It doesn't seem like it's really trying to shift at a lower rpm, when it gets to around 6000 it shifts. It seems to shift fine too, never really had any real tranny problems, no unusual noises or anything. Guess there could be something wrong with it but who knows? Guess I'll have it looked at.

Oh yeah, does 10.2 sound about right for the 1/8 mile track? I dont have a 1/4 mile near me so I have to give you the 1/8 for now.
