Headers to beef up 305 TBI

Anyone suggest anything good? Budget around $300. I want to just bolt them on, not put on a million different parts or new Ypipe or crap like that. I guess I want them same length or compadible with my stock setup.

edlebrock TES headers from summit, they are $330. Unfortunately they do not just bolt on, but the kit gives you everything you need.

Took me about 12 hours not counting breaks. Just do it on a weekend. You have to remove a lot of stuff, but its not that hard, jsut time consuming.

What types of gains are expected? Up to about 12 hp with those headers I heard, right?

You should get a nice 3" cat back and open element first. If you do this and then add some headers you should be at about 230 HP. thats 50hp more than stock.

Ooooh yummy. How long to install an American Thunder catback system? I can do it myself but I wanna know how long it will take so I can pick a nice day to do it. Exhaust will definitely be my greatest gain, I know that. I read "Let the air out before you let more in." So I'll work from catback, to catalyst (i DO need a new one I think), to headers, then MAYBE a set of used heads. I'll put in an open element somewhere down the line of there definitely.

305 TBIs lack intake, don't they?

do open element or bigger stock type air cleaner(like a lid from a truck) housing first. It breathes through a 1"x2" snorkel. That thing is like a muffler for the intake. Get rid of it.

Who offers the best open element at the best price for our(my) cars?

------------------
92 Camaro 305 TBI. Everything stock so far except a shift kit.

Future mods. Spark plug wires and plugs, tint, Cutting off cat and new 3inch pipes. Maybe putting 2 glass paks for effect. any other advise on getting to 300+ HP would be appreciated. Thanks

Summit sells one for 20 - 30 bucks. go with 14x3 I have a drop base cleaner.
Where did you grab a 170 - 230 hp increase from just a open element, header, 3" catback from? that is a lot for just those mods. I would say closer to 200. If you put on Edelbrock Vortec Intake, LT1 camshaft, and vortec heads + those mods, I would say you would be around 275 - 315.

little more than that, heads and a cam is good for 30-35 hp, intake mani, OE, headers and exhaust is good for at least another 40

I can't get a cam because I can't afford labor, and sure as hell can't do it myself.

My friends 1/4 mile trap speeds. When you look at all the restrictions put on our cars to make the HP come below the 305TPI and 350TPI its not that hard to concieve.

that is a lot for just those mods. I would say closer to 200.
no way in freaken hell. I'd say I have about 180hp-190hp with just a K&N open element, cold air to it, and rear section exaust. I've outrun a 4.3L v6 vortec s-10 and a 3.4L v6 DOHC toyota truck. This was on looong roads where off the line torque and traction had nothing to do with it.

Hmm.. Ok. I was just going on an article I had seen where they took an RS and put a dual snorkle assembly, and a flowmaster muffler, and they measured a 15 ft/lbs gain in torque and about 6 more hp.
I need a G-tech Pro.

I really don't think you'd gain that much. Are we forgetting about the wear and tear on the engine? I've seen engines that were kept up and after 100,000 the 170 HP become more like 150 HP. It's nice to assume we still have the stock rating of 170 HP even after 50K+ miles, but have to had it dynoed to check?

That hp decrease is probably due to bad seals or a clogged catalyst.
