Well, this a good place to start.

From what I hear crossfire has a lot of potential. I know on the corvette crossfire engines one of the biggest restrictions was the intake manifold. It's like any other engine. Make it breath and flow better and it will perform.

Dude, where are you located in Utah? For increasing the performance of the CFI;

1. Free stuff
A. 160 T stat
B. Advanced timing
C. Modded FPR, then raise the presure
D. Loose the smog pump

2. Headers and exhuast

All of these things alone should put you in the low 15's at RMR (4200' elevation)

3. Next port intake runners, loose or radically modify the swirl plates(mod them if it is a daily driver, remove them if it is for warm weather use only). Then bring your throttle bodies to a motorcycle/snowmobile shop and have them bored to 53mm. Get the requisite throttle plates from Braswell Carburation.

So far, you have spent around $700,(less if your a savey buyer) most of that for the exhaust, the rest for gaskets, and your car should easily run high 14's at RMR (again, 4200' elevation). After that I would slap in a Summit brand cam for $79 plus tax and gaskets. That should put you solidly in the mid 14's at this elevation, which makes your car a high 13 sec car at sea level.

Stock heads, intake, TB's, and Exhuast? He sure IS full of it. LOL. He MIGHT pull low 14's N/A. Look at my sig. And I'm not even CLOSE to 11's. Or 12's for that matter!

Get him to go to RMR on Wednesday night for Test 'n Tune. Bring your car too. I definately will be there, and a buddy of mine w/ a bone box stock '84 CFI Corvette. I will be bringing my scan tool for the guy w/ the Vette. He's having some SMALL issues, but he is really picky about the way his car runs since he uses it for Eliminations. It'll be fun, you should go.

BTW, you didn't grab a CFI assembly from Pick N Pull last summer did you? I was going to grab it for a 'port'able spare, and when I came back with my tools the next day, it was GONE!

I'm leaving for Lake Powell for the weekend in a few minutes, so I'll check this thread Monday. Think about RMR Wed. night. Later.

No offense, but what are you talking about?

Putting a 400 crank in a 305 takes no more work than putting a 400 crank in a 350 block. And a .030 over 305 w/ a 400 crank makes 334 CID.

His buddy has a CORVETTE, which comes with a 350 CID engine. Put a 400 crank in it and bore it .030 over, and you get 383.

And you're right about the Viper. It doesn't stand a chance. I'm hoping Recaro will talk his buddy in to going to Test 'n Tune Wednesday night here in Salt Lake City. If he beats me, I can learn something from him. If not (more likely) than he will be somewhat humbled.

my buddies corvette is in his garage now
because of a blown torque converter and some thing in the tranny. I will probably go to RMR on weds. one question so what could i expect hp and torque wise with all my mods on my 83 recaro?
3 inch exhaust flowmaster muffler
no catalytic converter
dual k and n airfilters
blue max moroso wires
accel super coil
accel rotor and cap
no A/C belt (cut that awhile ago)
no smog pump
bosch platinum 4 plugs
i think a stage 1 or stage 2 shift kit on
my 700 r4
the stock hp on the car was 175
and 250 tq.
where abouts do u think i am at now guys?

Recaro,

If you have optimized your timing, you are probably getting pretty close to 200 hp. The bummer is that at the elevation of Salt Lake City, you're loosing about 25 hp, which puts you right back to a stock rating at sea level! One thing I hate about living in Utah is how the elevation saps your hard earned power. When I drove my car down to Las Vegas last November to run it at a lower elevation drag strip, it felt like a f*cking ANIMAL, compared to the way it feels here in Park City, which is at 7000' elevation. And Vegas is still at 2200'. I'd LOVE to feel this thing at sea level! But then I would be bummed when I drove back home.

Hey Recaro,

Where were you last night? You missed out, man. There weren't too many people there and I got in 8 runs with out even trying too hard. (big breaks in between each run) You could pretty much just drive right up into the burnout box each time w/o having to wait in line.

I couldn't break into the 13's last night. The corrected elevation (baro/temp, etc) ranged from 8100' down to 7500' so I was hard pressed to make good hp. I managed a 14.1 at 97.5, which I thought was a pretty good ET for the mph. But man, I REALLY want a 13.999 in Salt Lake! I'm Going ro pull my Throttle bodies tonight and put the die grinder to them again. I need MORE AIR!
