Serious 305tbi buildup, need ideas\help!(long)

I should of posted this in the first place. IM haveing someone rebuild my motor. Im getting new heads, cam, and pistons. Now I dont know much about what works best with the 305tbi. That is where I need the help. 1-Im down to 2 diff. heads, SB-Chevy S/R Torquer 305 heads or Edelbrock centerbolt heads(like njspeeder). 2-I was thinking LT1 or LT4 cam, unless someone knows a better compucam. Pistons I dont know much at all. I was going to get new ones to support NOS if in the future. Any help would be great! Along with anything I forgot or need to think of. THANKS!

for the love of God don't rebuild a 305 and then expect to get big power from it. rebuild a 350 or something.

Amen TAS!

Bt, if you must rebuild a 305, stay AWAY from that lt4 cam. Damn, that thing is not even ground right for a stock LT1. Too damn big. Just stick with a compucam, one of the low end boosting ones as you will be giving up some serious low end off the line torque with that buildup. I am talking about the kind of torque that when your cruising in 2nd or third around 2000 rpm, blip the throttle and it puts you in your place without waiting till 2500 rpms. You will give that up both of your cam choices.Either way make sure you get gears in the rear end to compliment you new motor's breathing ability and keep it in the sweet spot for the best results.

If you get a copy of Camero Performers Magazine- Summer 2001 page 68 They are doing a build up of a 305. They used World Heads and a cam from Comp Cams. The hp gain with the heads alone was 51hp.

Also Chevy High Performance Magazine August and September 2000 did a buildup of a 305

A TPI or TBI 305 is not as bad as people as people think. It is not that hard to get a 305 to be 300hp.

LT4 cam should be fine. LT4 Hot Cam is too much for a 305.

I am wondering if a Torker II could be made to sit atop the Vortec heads...?wouldnt that be better than a dual plane (fuel injection doesnt rely on vacuum pressure)

Shane B put a torqer 2 on his 350 Vortec. I'd get the weiand version though. check the post with the guy asking about a carburator in the title. The weiand small single plane is the same money and has more material on the wall if you wanted to grind on it for a bigger TBI. the Torquer 2 wall is thin, and is angles inward towards the top.

Thats your option.. but I personally like
the 3rds better than the 4ths.. the only
4ths I really like are the fully decked out transams, just the plain firebirds dont really catch my eye..
Should have just gotten a 350crate motor and through that in there
