"Twin Snorkel" Ram Air Box product review

Yes, I know there is a product review board, but us TBI guys are the one's that will benifit from this review so bare with me.

For those of you that don't know, www.RamAirBox.com builds twin snorkel setups for performance use. They carry a wide variety of boxes and snorkels to fit any application.

When I ordered the Box two weeks ago, I found that they no longer carry the GM driver's side 4in intake snorkel (b/c GM discontinued it) which is required for a proper installation, so the stock snorkel must be re-used. I wasn't real happy about this but I ordered anyway. I just got the box today, and when I went to install it, I found that a relif cut and patch must be made to conform to the distibutor. After I did that I used my pre-existing open element filter assembly as the lid and base instead of buying the new over-priced ones RAM AIR sells. It all went together fine, except I did have to buy a longer carb stud. I used 4in aluminum heavy duty dryer hose to connect the box to the snorkels, and high temp silver tape to seal the ends. (this will work until I find some kind of 4in smooth rubber heater hose)

They tell you when you order that the stock diverter valve must be modified; true; they also tell you that the radiator fliud recovery tank must be removed and a small aftermarket one put in its place; FALSE. If the car has A/C, the silver condenser lines must be bent down gently out of the way, which clears enough room for the snokel.

After all is said and done, you go to shut your hood and it BARELY and I mean BARELY fits. I'm not sure what the track numbers will show (they say .2-.4 tenths, and .4 tenths improvement is common...I think that is a bit optimistic!!) but for about $140, I'm not sure it is worth it. I hope to be making a trip up to the track soon to test it out, but all I know is it better give me .4 tenths!! If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

Matt

Go to partsvoice.com to search nationwide for dealers who have them in stock.

You only need the part number.
