I own a 1985 camaro but cant tell what motor is in it a 305 or 350 i know they only came with 305 that year but i think it might have been switched any way of telling the diff without the number on body or block.the body vin says 305 and cant get to the block because of all the smog S#$T.please help i need to know

 

There's no definitive way to tell without looking at the casting number, or measuring.

Pull a head off and measure the bore.

A 350 has a 4" bore, a 305 has a 3.736" bore from the factory.

It's hard enough that you would really rather just look at the casting numbers.

What kind of fuel induction does it have (carb/tpi/tbi)?

 

eiter tbi or carb I know its not tpi
I have an o2 sencer if that helps(burned my self on it, lol)

 

I had this same dilemma with an '84 z28 I bought, ended up being a 305 TBI from an 89 firebird. To tell if it's carb or TBI pull off the air cleaner assembly, and check for two holes with an injector pod over the top of them, if so, it is TBI, otherwise, if you see two or four holes, without an injector above each hole it's probably carb. This doesn't help me much, with whether it's a 305 or 350, though. Do the valve covers have ridges on the top or are they smooth, this should help tell if the motor is '87 or later(with ridges and 4 bolts through the center) or '86 and older (smooth valve covers and 2 bolts on each side of the valve cover)

 

Well this could be just me but as far as i know in '85 all they offered were 305 V8's, the 350's were not introduced in the third gens until '87 and if my memory serves me right the 350's had tuned port injection. but if it is the original engine the easy way to find out what engine you have is to check the 8th VIN digit on your VIN number.

the 8th digit should be one of the ones i listed below, they are the engine codes for '85. the codes next to the engine size is the corresponding RPO code for the engine as well.
