I have a stock 92 305 TBI, would i be able to just put an LT1 cam into my car without changing anything else? Also, out of what car is it best to get the cam from? year?

Thank You

Can you put in the LT1 cam without changing anything? Sure. Will it run better, I'm not sure. It depends on what other things you've done. As a comparison, I swapped in a '95 F-body LT1 cam and the car runs great! I'm still running the stock chip and injectors. The LT1 really complements the 3" cat-back and 1-5/8" SLP headers, WC T5 & 3.45 gears I'm using. Today I hooked up my vacuum adjustable fuel pressure meter. But I need to tweek it a bit. 12 psi at idle and 20 at WOT! (now stumbles when floored off idle due to too much fuel being injected). I forgot to mention I have a LT1 fuel pump I installed in the tank. We ran the scan tool and found the stock chip is still handling everything fine. Bottom line, you may need a custom chip burned to take advantage of the cam. But this is a great mod that will wake up your engine.

Hey lonsal:
Did you replace the valve springs?

Mine have a lot of miles on them but appear to be in ok shape.. I'm almost done with my cam swap, (praying that nothing bad happens to engine)....

Only think i'm not 100% sure on is the valve lash..

Lonsal, do you have the stock heads and intake. I am going to try an LT4 that I have but do not know if it will do any good without changing the intake or heads. The breather flows well and I have headers and 3" exhaust. 5spd 3:08 Thanks for any info on the 305. My 350 HO just **** itself

Re-used stock springs (103K on them). Stock intake & heads. I tested it at the track yesterday and ran 15.495 @ 89.62 mph. Prior to swapping the cam it ran 15.694 @ 87.51 mph. Good luck with your swaps. It is worth it. Lon

Thanks for the reply Lon I'm glad to see that it made a differance. I going to do the swap and I just have to decide if I will change the rockers to 1.6 Cranes that I have and change the intake. Any opinions?

I don't know if I would go with an Lt1 cam and 1.6 RR's on the stock springs.. they are close already with just the lt1 cam.. with 1.6 rockers, you increase the lift another .03".. that could be bad...

I will be changing the springs either way. Might even stick my Vortec's on there. Any thought's on LT4 cam, 1.6 rollers rockers, Vortec heads, Edel Vortec intake on the 305? I know about the compression drop but I'm not milling them. I will use a GM composition .028 head gasket for what it's worth. It has to kick the peanut right off the planet. Not like having the 350 back but that's for spring time.
