the best intake in terms of a stock, perfect drop in for a standard bore small block TBI is the edelbrock performer. it is based on the timetested performer small block. it has all the accesary and vacuum ports in the exact place they are onm the factory manifold.
the next step up if you have a big block or holley 670 TB is the holey TBI intake. the accessary placement isn't as good. but the manifold volume and design will allow for more power to be made at rpm's above 5K, where as that is when the edelbrock starts to have breathing issues.
both are priced about the same new, if you look through the classifieds you are more likely to see and edelbrock for sale, prolly $100-125 used.

hope this helps

ok, tonight I was hooking everything back up desperately trying to finish my 305-350 swap, and let me tell you, the edelbrock intake sucks. It is the second edelbrock intake out of 2 I have purchased that Had to be modified in one way or another. The Performer TBI needed a hole drilled in the front, so I could mount a stud. then the manifold vaccuum port in behind the TBI was in the way of the steel fuel lines. I had to bend the fuel lines to clear it, which was a pain, not to mention not kosher. rebending high pressure lines doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I will definitely think twice before ever purchasing another edelbrock product.

I had to do this too. I had the hole drilled and tapped by a machine shop for $10. I don't like spending money on something that should have already been drilled and tapped in the first place. I talked to Edelbrock's tech line and they said that they stopped drilling that one because "That's a truck manifold and trucks don't have that bracket. We stopped to save money and because nobody seemed to need it".. Thats a bunch of crap. Nowhere on the discription does it say anything about that. I'm ok with it though because I probly would have had to do a lot more with the holley unit.. Plus I can keep the EGr..

my edelbrock went on with no probs. the only hole that wasn't drilled and tapped was for the a/c compressor brace. and that is a completely unnecessary piece since it is bolted in on both sides through the big aluminum bracket it sits in anyway. and i didn't rebend any lines either. just had to do the fuel lines because i was running a TB spacer.
i have never had any install probs with any edelbrock product.

later

I had similar problems with the Edelbrock intake, but it was no big deal, really. I just can't use the bracket that used to hold down my fuel lines anymore. It definitely isn't a direct replacement, like they advertise.

Oh my word, if you guys wanna whine about it not being completely like stock you might as well have left it stock! I think the nature of your rants are weak, welcome to the world of hotrodding where you just *might* have to modify things to get them to work *gasp!*

Hey Pablo, did you see the post about the guy boring out the edelbrock TBI to 2"? I didn't think it was possible. He put a 670 on it.

it's not that i'm not used to modifying stuff to work, all I drive are hot rods. it's just when you need the car done now, having to fix edelbrock's crap direct bolt-in intake so it will work really is the last thing you need. It says "direct replacement" on the box.
