tbi tpi heads

i was reading something about swapping tbi to tpi heads, i guess this is suppose to help the stocker run. i was also under the influence that tpi heads flow worse than tbi heads?? so why should i put tpi heads on my tbi car?

Re: tbi tpi heads

They flow slightly less on the exhaust side and more on the intake side, mainly at higher lift. Under 275 hp and it's a wash as to which head will make more power. Above that and the TPI head has the advantage, much past 325 hp and you are much much better off with vortec or aftermarket heads.

Re: tbi tpi heads

so do you suggest swapping these tbi heads with tpi on my nearly stocker? i am gonna do the lt1 cam a set of headers full exhaust and hopefully some kind of different or better upgraded tbi intake. ALSO>>take you up on that tuning idea. my winaldl cable will be here soon so i can start data logging. next step is read more stickies, order burner and flash chips (if thats all i need) and start burning. so anyway sorry that took so long,,tbi to tpi heads?

Re: tbi tpi heads

On a near stocker.....I would stick with the TBI heads. The LT1 cam will help raise the power band, but no where near too high for the swirl ports.

Like I said money would be much better spent on vortec or aftermarket heads, and most deffinately get into tuning.

see if you cant find later alum tpi vette heads instead of the iron tpi ones.

Or consider vortec.

Re: tbi tpi heads

i probably wont go vortec cuz that takes different intake right away im assuming. and monte said that tpi heads would do me nearly no good with my almost stocker

Re: tbi tpi heads

You'll re-examine whay you consider as "need" once you get the car running on the cam. Some guys say they get around just fine, while other have a heck of a time even getting the car to idle.

In my book I wouldn't do the cam swap without tuning. You'll be giving up a LOT of power, and your gas mileage and drivability is going to go down the tubes. Anything you do now to help the engine breath is just going to make it worse.

Once you get tuning, the next step is going to be to open up the intake tract.

Re: tbi tpi heads

in that case i screwed up because i ordered my exhaust before my aldl cable. i was under the impression that no tuning would be required to open up the exhaust. my bad
