What Shocks are good?

Man, now i'm posting question like crazy! LOL! Ok, i need new shocks, i have a 92 firebird 305 tbi, what are some good shocks, i need all 4. Another question, what does it mean when there is gas, at least it smells like gas, being spit out from the hose that connects to the breather? When i put the open element, i noticed my "stock breather", the white little sponge that is so called a breather, moist and extremely brown. I could squeeze it and it would drip gas? Can someone tell me what this problem is? Thanx!

Soon more mods to come!

I went with KYB Gas-A-Just Shocks in the rear and KYB GR-2 Struts in the front. The 2 shocks in the front aren't called shocks, they call them struts just for future refrence. Part numbers are at my second site in my sig under suspension mods.

I am guessing on this but there shouldn't be any gas in it at all. Suppose to be oil. I have no idea what gas is doing in ur breather filter but I know someone on here had the same problem but I can't remember what it turned out to be. Gas in the crankcase means something but I can't remember. Anyone else remember?

(1) Struts/shocks -
If you don't have any dead-set goals for your suspension right now (like spending 3x as much as you need to), just get some decent Gabriel shocks ($20x2=$40) and struts ($30x2=$60), or maybe Monroe, from your local parts store. The installs aren't too bad, except maybe breaking the lower strut bolts (where the struts bolt to the steering knuckle) loose - they can get kinda rusty and are torqued to 195lbs, so spray 'em ahead of times a couple times with liquid wrench or wd40.

(2) Breather -
Are you positive it (what "drips" out when you squeeze the old breather filter) smells like gasoline and not oil? It's not unusual for that breather filter to get pretty saturated if left unchanged for a long time. The filter actually gets visibly oily within a few days of changing. Unless you're positive it's gasoline, I wouldn't worry about it.

Check it out on the General/Tech Engine section of thirdgen.org. They might remember that post. It might have been from that section.

Don't go with Gabriel's. Worst mistake I ever made on my Camaro. Couldn't get rid of them fast enough. Everyone else that I know that has used them said the same thing.

KYB's are decent. Wish I could afford new Bilsteins.

I got the Monroe Gasmatic Plus ones. I remember they had "Plus" on them. They are the middle grade ones. They have worked well I think and didn't cost a fortune either.

I just put some KYB's Gas-a-Just on the back and it tighten up the rear really well. it could of been that mine were just old but now the back doesn't bounce down anymore when i go over a speed bump. the back is firmer if i push it down. i haven't put the GR2's on yet. still in the box.

I put Gabriels on my old Lincoln. Greatest thing I ever did to the car. But you're right. I wouldn't let a Gabriel within 20 feet of my Camaro if I could help it.
