I want to remove my emisions

HEy guys i wanted to remove all my emissions. I want to remove all the vacuum emissions in the engine bay, the smog pump, and the cat. Will i notice an increase in power. And will this through anything of with the computer and the way the car runs. I am currently saving up for a full exhaust system from the heads back, but i wanted some more power for the time being. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

I think you should leave it all alone. If the clutter bothers you that's one thing, but your not going to realize the gain in power that your clearly anticipating....

Re: I want to remove my emisions

The systems you spoke of will not effect the ECM, they also won't effect power much at all. It will clean up th engine bay and remove a bit of weight.

Make sure you leave the EGR system intact, it will effect how the car runs and has to be removed from the chip.

Yeah...its mainly weight savings and cleanliness...your ac and smog both dont take much out of the motor to run...and the cat (in my preference) when removed sounds too poppy...kind of like small japanese gremlins inside with mini jap cars driving around inside the cat...with their jap exhausts..Lol. I just dont like the many pops you get when removing or gutting cats....just get a high flow cat....3"

Re: I want to remove my emisions

Crazymaro, maybe 2-3 lbs less and 1-3 hp more?

Dont waste time with that. If you want to play around you can try to adapt a camaro tpi air intake to a tb bonnet (looks really good on those cars).

And for more power you should start with the same old song, full 3"exhaust + 3" highflow cat and chip.

Olso remember your car is a highly modern 80s design and a small block with open element and no hoses and cables makes it look like highly modern 60s engine bay.

Re: I want to remove my emisions

There really isnt all that much in the way of power robbing emissions junk in the engine bay of these cars. Ive never really worked on fords or even much looked under the hood of them, until the other day someone came over with about a 90 grand marc with the 5.0 FI, I was amazed by how many hoses and stuff they had under the hood of that thing compared to my 92 TBI. Removing the smog pump is not all that hard and in my case it didnt even throw a check engine light. Use 1/2 dia. by 20 t.p.i. bolts to plug the holes in the manifold. You have to get a longer belt and run the routing differant, you'll also need to change your vacuum line to elimate the T fitting that routes a hose off to the air pump controller thingy. Theres an article in the tech section of this board, check it out. Other than that I really wouldnt mess with anything else, unless your cat is clogged or your going with new exhaust. Even then I would consider keeping the cat(s) and just using a hi flow cat (less expensive than stock cat).

Plus, the emissions are there to serve a purpose. You and everyone else has a responsibility to help protect the environment.
