Need help...
Alright this is all what my dad has told me
Ok so my pickup coil wire was bad and wouldn't let the car start...so he replaced that and the distributor, cap, rotor and ignition module... And well now the car will;l start but frankly runs like S***.... It idles really rough i couldn't even pull it onto the road because it would get to the edge and would have enough ***** to drive over it... Can someone point me in the right direction.

Re: Need help...
Prior to your dad replacing those parts, what was the vehicle doing? Was it running perfectly then just up and quit, or was it acting up and eventuall quit. I'm not trying to be rude but with out a little more info its pretty vague. Can you give me a little more info of what led up to it quitting. Do you have a scanner? are you getting any codes?

Oh your not being rude at all. I don't think of everything when i ask a question so its nice of you to point out what all info i need. It was going fine then one day it shut down..Just up and died as i was leaving a friends house. So I went out and looked for a little while then turned it over and ti started so i drove it home...Then when i was home i fell asleep on the couch and my sister needed to go to the store so she took my car. when she was there it wouldn't start back up for her. well then me and my dad went up an hour later started right up drove it home parked it in the driveway.... It started up just fine we thought it was over heating because this was on like a 95 degree day... Then the next morning on the way to school it was like 60... Died again... So it obviously wasn't a heating problem if im going 60mph in 60 degree weather...couldn't get it running again so then i had a freind tow me home. Then my dad and i started thinking of possible things..it was getting fuel so we Pulled the cap and rotor off and both looked like they needed replacing, So replaced those. Then no start so we went and had the ign. module tested it was fine but got a new one just because mine was old. So then we thought it was the ECM. So i started looking for one but autozone had to order it. So my dad said he would look and see if they had it in the town he works in. Well then his mechanics said they didn't think it was ECM. They said pickup coil wire and a freind of mien said buy a new distributor. Did both... Now it starts but runs extremely rough...The whole car shakes at idle. I mean SHAKES. Tried setting timing at 0* no luck there so we then tried up to 6*BTDC Still terrible. It shakes and shakes and you need to gas it to keep it even running then in gear it has a hard time driving over a stick thats a half inch thick....
I think thats pretty detailed if im missing any info please feal free to ask and ill answer to the best of my knowledge

Re: Need help...
Sounds like the timing is still off. Did you unplug the single wire timing connector up by the blower motor before you timed it? With the engine idling and the timing connector connected, you should have about 20* of timing advance. Also make for sure that the plug wires are routed correctly. The correct SBC firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

Re: Need help...
We did disconnect the wire. We tried settign timing and then realized we needed to pull the connector when i was reading the sticker to see what they recommend timing at.. We checked the wires two times to be sure and they were correct.

Check the vacuum line to the MAP from the rear of the TBI. It is right in that area and becomes brittle with age. They tend to break when one goes messing around in that general area. A broken MAP sensor line has messed me up more than once. A broken tube will not let the MAP sensor recieve the proper vacuum signal and the engine will run terrible.

Yah, I agree with fast. Start by looking for a vacume leak. Its either that or possibly a bad MAP sensor, but test for the leak first. and dont assume just because you cant see the crack that its ok. Often you'll have to remove it to inspect it. It may be where you cant see it...like at the bottom...Either the tube or at a boot.
Wouldn't it be nice if vacume leaks sprayed flourscent orange?

Re: Need help...
Well shes fixed... We had the timing right and couldn't figure it out so i pulled out all the plugs and checked the gapping.. All were off they were either set t 25 or 45... So set them all at 35 the recommended gap..Then found #5 wire was melted a little and could see a little bit of wire.. So got a whole new set...Then as i was putting the air cleaner back on i realized one injector was unplugged.... GRRR... So plugged her in set timing fired her up and shes running like a beast now.
