Re: gas milage lo3
I used to get 27mpg in my '92 RS when doing 75mph on the highway. Then I got a drivers' side exhaust manifold leak and my gas mileage chit the bed. I didn't think RS's came with 16" rims from the factory, mine were the 15" rims with 215/65s.

My 91 RS came from the factory with the optional painted 16" wheels, according to the RPO list. Same with my buddies RS, factory 16" wheels.
Anyways, I get 16 1/2 to 21 MPG in my 91 RS, mostly city type driving, and I "play" with it often. I think the best mileage I've recorded has been @24-25 MPG

i have been getting just about 22mpg combined driving. this should get better real soon, when i get my T5 in. for some reason my converter doesn't lock.

If you're having a problem with gas mileage, then I would recommend that you change your o2 sensor. I did and it is like night and day.

Same here. My mileage would keep changing regardless of how I was driving, and then while changing spark plugs I discovered the o2 sensor had broken in half... New one in and I've noticed the difference.

O2 along with other basic maint will make or break gas mileage. Start with some seafoam in the gas tank and crankcase, run til empty and change oil. Then use the rest of your can in the intake. Change the fuel filter, air cleaner, plugs, wires, rotor&cap, and 02 sensor (splice your own for less) and you should be gravy.

While I'm not an automatic I can squeeze a lot of gas milage out of my l03. I get about 25-30 in stop go traffic/rodding it on country roads & on the highway I can get anywhere from 30-35 maybe a little more & the engine has 161,*** miles on it so pretty good keeping right up with those fuel efficient cars.

my 88 with 366,XXX mile was getting 26-30 before the rear locked up sending my car into the ditch. my timing chain was so damn wore out that the cam was like 18 degrees retarded. it had jumped a tooth but would run with the distributor clocked back a tooth. no low end at all. car totaled

Oh... I get around 16 in town and 25 on the road and I drive like a lead foot. These number will change for the worse when I swap rear axles. I'll be a touch faster, be able to break harder, and have better traction but my economy will suck more (pun intended).

my wife wanted to kick my butt. she thought i did it street racing til i showed her the parts in the diff. apparently the 2.73 peg leg don't like long burnouts or the forgetfulness of the owner for proper lubrication.

Are you sure you did your math right? I've never heard of these motors averaging over 30mph. If so that's freaking awesome. The best I've ever averaged on one tank was ~28 mpg spending a whole day on the freeway. In normal driving (about half city/hwy) mine sees a high of 25mpg and about a low of 20. When it saw more city driving it averaged in the upper teens. My fuel economy barely changed at all after going from 2.73s to 3.42s. I'll probably be changing the O2 sensor in the near future.
Right now I have shorty headers, 3" catback exhaust, no cat, a dual snorkel aircleaner, and a taller truck K&N air filter.

Car was bone stock and even now after some modifications done here in august I haven't seen much difference at all (hooker 2055 headers, no cat, hooker 3'' cat-back). Our big difference is the transmissions.

Re: gas milage lo3
Okay, now I see. Your logic is a little flawed. Yes I have done well over 100 miles in a "quarter of a tank", but I have never come close to 400 miles in a tank. It is not because my fuel economy is that much better in the first half of my tank, but because the gauge is inaccurate. The gas gauge basically tells you a rough estimate of how much gas is left. You have to do your caluclation in full tanks of gas to have a more accurate estimation. Even then, that's all it is, an estimation. Fill your tank, reset your trip odometer, drive out the whole tank, refill and mark how many gallons you put in. Divide the miles on your trip odometer by the gallons on the pump and that is the best estimate of your average fuel economy. Otherwise I too get over 30 mpg, in the first half of my tank.

Re: gas milage lo3
Yeah see your point on that, but never have actually ever had to drive full 400 miles on an interstate either. Thats like entire distance across my state
. I've driven quite a ways on an interstate (~230), but then I end up driving in stop-go traffic quite a bit before/after so never had chance to do full tank comparison between the two. I might just have to do that sometime, spend entire day on the interstate....kinda hard with no scenery at all in this state about as boring as watching Nascar

658.7 miles on 28.5 gallons was my best all highway mileage from my 305 TBI (1983 G20 Van). That was with 5 people, all the crap we had with us, running 70-75 MPH with the cruise set and the A/C blasting in the 100* Texas summer heat. Oh yeah, it was the stock 240K mile 305 converted to TBI (chip tuned by me) with long tube headers and 2 1/2" duals. 3.08 gears, 29" tall tires, and a 700r4 definately contributed.

I always got around 22 mpg in the city +/- 3 mpg.
The L03 is done, though. Bring on the 350.

.It only has to be all on the highway if you are focusing strickly on calculating highway miles. I just reset my trip odometer everytime I fill up and check my mileage right there at the pump everytime.

i get around 21 but i have a lead foot. I did a complete tune up and i go about 25-28 mpg on the highway using cruise. there is a stretch of highway though i go all the way to the speed govener
and that couple of miles eat most of my gas.

Re: gas milage lo3
When I first came to school, which is about a 100 mile drive on the highway, I filled up right before leaving. I got to school, and the next day I was taking all my buddies for rides in the new car. I put about 55 miles on just ripping around back roads and burning out ect. When I filled up I expected to see like **** gas milage because I beat on the car for 50 miles. However, it averaged out to 28mpg. Considering the previous, then I proabaly got better than 30 on the highway. Around town I get 18-20 but that is my lead foot, and it is better when I dont stretch the gears out. The car has 52K on it and needs some sort of tune-up because it wont run in the rain.
On another note, anyone know how many gallons the tank is? I dont have an owners manual.

It's likely more than 16 because I have put more than 14 gallons many times, and more than 15 I think as well.
