well after asking and reading, everone said lt4 springs fit, i orderd springs and retaners and locks all LT4 brand new from GM, they will fit the pockets that are flat but not the pockets that sonke in on the stock l03 heads, the O.D of the lt4s are bigger so now what? i dont want to take the heads off and have them milled this is basicly just pointless!

 

im going to put the engine back in, with stock springs on a lt1 cam, this should be fine right engine has 60k on it

 

itll be fine its just recommended to change them because of wear over years but you should be able to get away with it its like running an L98 cam.

 

I haven't run across a set yet that the LT4 springs would not fit in.

The LT4 Hotcam springs WILL NOT FIT, but the PRODUCTION LT4 springs should.

i tryed fitting the LT4 springs on a pair of stock 416 H.O heads i had laying around they will not fit the pockets that are snoke in, they fit the flat pcokets tho, the heads im putting the lt4s on are 187 heads thats in the car, heres some pics, what can i do? i have a few things i can think of doing
1) returen the springs and buy the springs listed in the LT1 cam thread
2) die grind the pockets bigger with a dimmon bit
3) not the best idea but shave some of the springs so they fit in the pockets
4) run stock springs

 

dont grind the spring!

if you do try to grind the spring pocket i can see a problem with you being consistant from pocket to pocket. your installed heights will vary. May not be a huge deal with stock like LT1/L98 cams but i just dont like that idea.

why not get comp 981 springs that are drop in replacements for stock valve springs? they are 1.25" diameter if not a tad smaller.

 

Ditto on the aftermarket springs. Cheap insurance. There are a variety of decent springs that can be made to work with the stock heads.

thats the most popular drop in replacement spring for stock heads. will work good with LT1 cam but i dont know about the lift on stock heads. retainer to guide clearance becomes an issue at around .480 lift. So if you use 1.6 rockers, you may need to shim up the spring and run offset locks. the only offset locks i can find are 10 degree stuff, so you will need new retainers too. Thats roughly another 80 bucks for retainers/locks

 

im just going to run the stock springs, i dont see why they woundt be fine

 

with the price of springs being as cheap as they are, it be wise to get a fresh set.
