Misfire/Rough Drivability
So this last week has turned from an awesome week to a horrible one.
I finished my Camaro's tune-up consisting of: oil change, coolant flush, Map sensor, tps sensor, distributor cap and rotor.
I initially only had one misfiring problem and that was because i mixed up one wire. We changed that, and it ran beautifully. Unfortunately i ran out of gas. So i grabbed the ole gas jug sittin in the yard (My granpa told me it had 87 in it) and put about 2 gallons in the camaro until i got to the gas station. Well i drove it to my other grandmas house and parked it (working on window motor)
After a couple of hours with the window motor, we decided to head to another garage and i proceeded to crank up the Camaro. Well it idled for maybe a mintue and then came the misfiring/skipping. Its not constant very random. I said WTH and just tried to drive it over to the other garage. It didnt want to move over around 35-40 so i didnt push it.
We went over, re-checked all the wires, looked for vacuum leaks and couldnt find anything. So i figured it had to be bad gas.
Well the last 2 days ive ran it in park up through the rpm's and let it idle for about 10-20 minutes and it does the same thing. Runs pretty well in park with minimal misfire, but in gear in really messes up.
So under advice from some fellow mechanics i put some gas treatment in the car to see if it would help it. Now the car runs like before i had my new tps. Its bogging, bucking, and misfiring through all driving(worse in OD)
i really need some help.
(i will post a vid after i get off work tonight)

Re: Misfire/Rough Drivability
how long did u run the car before it ran out of gas, was it just idling or did u drive it? It sounds like a timing issue to me, was the distributor taken out and if so did u put it back in exactly the same way. Is your MAP sensor vacuum hose hooked up to the throttle body?

Double check the wires too. Check each wire for continuity - there could be a break in a wire. Make sure they are all on the plugs and the cap all the way (I had a wire that wouldn't stay on a plug until I crimped it a tad more, and it caused a bad misfire).

Cant hurt to triple check the wires again, so will do again tommorow morning before tackling the heater core(Oh so much fun
)Oh i ran it for a couple of minutes just at idle, no driving around. It purred perfectly. No just the cap and rotor were removed..Yeah my MAP sensor is hooked up, brand new sensor too.

i would of done the plugs but they werent bad, NGK plugs, gapped correctly, no wear so there was no need to replace them. i woulda if they had been bad. And yeah the wires are tight, thats the first thing i checked..

Re: Misfire/Rough Drivability
replace the fuel filter and see how it drives......
if still shity check fuel pressure.....
if it's good pull the ignition control module off and have it tested.
those are the only things i could think unless when you ran it out of gas it killed the pump (not uncommon, it's a submerssible pump for a reason, the gasoline is it's lubricant without it it burns up quite easily). I know when installing new 1s in empty tanks you can burn 1 up just with the flick of a key pretty easy been there done that...
