Did my first TBI Mod

Slapped on an open element air cleaner this morning. Sounds nice, and the butt dyno feels good too.
Now I just gotta clean that engine bay up!

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

Why bother polishing it if he has the A/C delete already. Just get rid of it along with the lines.

Good Job, clean up the bay a little bit and it will look pretty decent.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

Yeah I wanna lose the rest of the AC stuff, and my smog pump. I'll probably just do it when I put headers on. Speaking of which looks like it's going to be a PITA to get the stock ones off with all that AIR and smog crap on them.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

is that a drop base air cleaner though? yes better than the stock by a long shot but the Mr. gasket "small" drop base air cleaner without the gold spacer felps the most IMO. But a great start!

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

yeah it's a drop base. I really wanted to use a 3" filter and i thought I might clear it without using the spacer but it's just a hair too short. I may have a machine shop make me a 1/4 inch aluminum ring or something. I'm probably going to carb the motor anyway though so I may just stick with this for now. I need headers and exhaust bad before anything else. Then gears and posi.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

youshould be hitting the coil, unbolt it and put the round hole at the back bolt of the throttle bracket and bolt it there so it open air hangs, it'll also keep the coil cooler, just did it on my new camaro, I'll post pics

I bent the metal back that the coil is on so there is like an inch of space.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

You can should have just gotten a flat base, then you wouldn't have to worry about the coil, but more importantly, that restrictive gold ring on top of the TB!!! Oh well, just wanted to point that out for future readers of this thread.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

Doesent using a flat base require clearencing for the throttle linkage?

Also, the parts stors dont generally carry flat base around here.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

There was a spectre 2" air cleaner at autozone but it was only 10" wide too, but it was flat. I actually got that one first, and it was too small, I had to use the base for that one too to clear the linkage as stated above.

What size cleaner do you have on it?

No, it does effect the throttle linkage in any way. I never even heard that.

Well, why settle for what they have on the shelf. For the most part, they will order whatever you want if you ask them.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

thats exatly waht i did to my 305
slap on a chome aircleaner. i had no idea if it will fit or not. cost me $20 at the local store. and it fits good to i was suprized and im happy i also got rid of all the smog stuff and what not. and got rid of the windshield washer fluid stuff. cleaned it out abit more.
and i quickly sprayed on some engine cleaner. that helped abit as well. and did alittle bit of polish work on any open metal. about an hour or so of work and it really cleaned it up good
ill take a snap shot of it. i think i have an after and before photo.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

Well I dont see the point of removing all the smog stuff, because it will only be nice untill the emissions guy fails me, and DMV pulls the reg.

And the washer fluid is a nesessity to me. Use it daily.

Re: Did my first TBI Mod

I put in a 4th gen washer tank. Just had to extend the hose and wires. Real easy mod.

I plan on useing a 4th gen coolant overflow as well, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
