What is needed for LT4 Hot Cam kit?

First of all I have done a and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. So please if you aren't going to help just don't respond. Thanks!

Ok, so here is my question. What do I need to do to my almost stock LO3 to be able to put in this LT4 Hot Cam kit. I will get a set of stock L98 or aluminum vette L98 heads and get some machine work done to them. But I'm curious if the TBI injection it's self will be able to support this cam. I know chip tuning is the most important thing and I will be getting a custom chip made.

The only things I have done is ultimate TBI mods, injector spacer, 14x3 K&N open element, & flow master exhaust.
I will probably be doing a headers, 3-inch y, and 3-inch cat back before the engine work as well so it will be able to breathe.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm new to the engine stuff.

Better set of heads to support the powerband of that cam (and lift). It'd be very agressive in a 305, not the best match. It will never run right, ever, if you say you're getting a custom chip made. It will only run right if someone driving the car and datalogging, personally makes many custom chipS

TBI isnt limited like it used to be. You could run TBI no problem but it would be smart to just go 350.

Don't get me wrong, you can run TBI with that setup no problem and EBL is great. But, you definitely can't expect to just plug in the EBL and be up and running with a Hot-cammed 305, there will still be plenty of tuning to do.

Well it sounds like it is going to be too much work and kinda pointless in an LO3. So I suppose I'm just gonna trough a stock LT1 cam in it with some tunning.

LT1 cam is the easy way out. Stab a nice cam in it that will work with the stock head flow and you will be surprised.

Yeah I have done plenty of reading on the LT1 cam. So that is the way I'll go. Much Much cheaper too!

Ok cool! I'll keep that in mind when I'm looking.

What is the difference between the LT1 & LT4 cam?

This is in shifty's lt1 cam digest and some other posts.

Dur. 230 208 / Lift(1.5) .450 .460 / Lobe 116 / 94-95 LT1 stock
Dur. 205 207 / Lift(1.5) .447 .459 / Lobe 117 / 96 LT1 stock
Dur. 203 210 / Lift(1.5) .446 .449 / Lobe 115 / 96 LT4 stock
Dur. 218 226 / Lift(1.5) .492 .492 / Lobe 112 / LT4 hot

The stock lifts are really close, there is some general information on that chart that may be interesting.

I have the 94-95 LT1 cam in my LO3 and id made a huge difference with stock fuel pump and pressure. Wonder if it even can take more fuel, I hope ill find out with EBL.

It doesnt spinn the tires much easyer then with the peanut cam but gradualy pulls much harder as rpm and speed increase (open 2.73). I actually get one weel peels over 3000rpm in 1&2 on irregular street surfaces
Result of my cam swap, I whant to swap heads or engine even badly'r

Re: What is needed for LT4 Hot Cam kit?

I was just looking and found a stock 96 LT1 cam for $20. So my question is how much more power would the stock 96 LT4 cam make over the stock 96 LT1 cam? If it is significant than I'll try to find one. If not I may just jump on that LT1 cam for $20.

Thanks everyone for the replies and help!

I can't believe that there would be much difference. If I had it to do again the $20 cam would be my choice. [In your case.]

I've got to tell you that I have had so many tb units that I don't remember which one the spring I am using came out of it was so long ago. It "might" be out of one of the Caprice 350 units that I had. I don't know what difference they were. BUT I do remember that at wot I still needed more pressure and never got a stronger spring like I needed. You will have to excuse my memory as I am just now starting to deal with the car again......

What rear gears are you running in that bird?
