Open Element Air Cleaner is Worth It!
Just bought one at Schucks and I'll say it is Awesome! It defiantly has better throttle response and actually sounds way better than stock at WOT or close too it.i would say that this is one of the best things i have ever spent $20 and is very easy to install just make sure your coil doesn't touch. just had to do a few mods since the cleaner i got wasn't a flat one it was a drop.just thought i would post this for anyone wondering about switching to the open element it IS worth it!

Yay!
The next low cost thing you should do is get a Wonder Bar.
After that, start saving for a full 3 inch exhaust with headers.
Don't forget the utimate TBI mods!

Re: Open Element Air Cleaner is Worth It!
the only problem with the open element is that once the engine warms up, you are sucking in very hot air. the flow is remarkably better, but the hot air is not. just a thought. can't beat it for $20 though.
as posted above, definately get the wonderbar! it is worth it. certain older irocs had them from the factory as well. it keeps the frame horns from being pushed apart when turning the wide-a$$ tires.
after that you'll want...
a COMPLETE exaust (headers back) tbi mods as someone else posted
gears and a limited slip
find an aluminum drive shaft out of an LS1-powered fbody (fits as is)
sfc's (sub-frame connectors)
the list goes on and on and on...

Re: Open Element Air Cleaner is Worth It!
I got my car with the open element.
I removed the spacer, did the tbi mods, moved the coil onto the firewall, shorty headers, true dual sidepipes, FULL ignition (with 7AL-2 box)
and mild tranny and suspesion upgrades. I never expected to have as much power as I got out of it, but then again it is a roller 350
