Question about LT1 cammed LO3's

How is the driveability with the LT1 cammed LO3's, and do they have a noticable idle or does is idle like stock? I always hear about LT1 cam installs but never really anything about what the car acts like after the install. Thanks!

Re: Question about LT1 cammed LO3's

With a little tune, the Car drives perfectly and Idles like stock. Play'n with EBL flash better then stock.

I dont understand, why GM did not use the L98 cam that is wery similar to the LT1 cam, for the sport loocking cars with 5L tbi engines.
They could even have made more $ by using the better exhaust, fuel pumps and cams+springs, on all tg.

Because then the base model TBI cars would outrun the top of the line TPI cars and that just wouldn't fly.

could you imagine!?! In that world TBI's wouldn't be a laughing stock but a respected alternative to the TPI's

Agreed. A tuned LO3 with an LT1 cam has great street manors and idle qualities. The car will pull solid till 5000 rpm and feel like a different beast. Without tuning, the car will run like poo and you will literally struggle to back the car out of the driveway. Tuning is the key. I have worked on numerous LT1 cammed LO3's and the ones we did PROM tuning on ran awesome, and the ones we used the stock chip on never made it out of the driveway.

Re: Question about LT1 cammed LO3's

Dont the LT1 cams have a stupid wide LSA? If so, wouldnt that mean the idle would be even less noticible than stock?

I was using that "camquest" program just for *****, and there was a cam recommended similar to the LT1 cam with 1.6 rockers, it was the XR-258HR with .480 / 4.88 lift, 206 / 212 duration @050, but since the LSA was only 112 I would assume it would have a more choppy idle?? Either way, no .480 lift on the swirlports LOL.

I think that program is a little "off" though, because it said with just that cam, shortys, and an exhaust, I could make 260HP @ 4500 RPM, and 400tq at 2000 RPM. With the stock TB (I guessed 350CFM) and the stock heads with 1.84 / 1.50 valves.

It is still pulling nicely at 4400-4500rpm when the governor upshifts.
Was thinking of installing a GM corvette 5000rpm governor instead of playn with governor weights and springs.

What option did you end up with?

#BC.17...242.GMPT, .449/.459 with 1.5rockers

This is the stamped # and mesured lift of the LT1 cam I installed.

According to the LT1 identification cart somewere on tgo, it should be GM 94-95 LT1, duration230/208, 1.5 lift.450/.460 and lobe116 cams.

Im starting to belive 260hp at 5000rpm is doable with this LT1cam, full exhaust, good cold air intake, 46mm bored 3704, TPI fuel pump, AFPR and tuning EBL flash.

The fact that with 17psi FP my injector duty cicle is DC%94 at 4450rpm and that 17psi at DC%85 is fuel for 238hp, gives me hope.
