Re: Fuelpump

TPI systems run at roughly double pressure than TBI. So no..you can't run a TPI pump. Sorry.

To run a TPI fuel pum you must make the FPR adjustable (AFPR) and probably put a little stiffer FP spring in to keep it at 11.5 - 13 psi.

If you dont do any upgades that will require more fuel, it is better to use the stock TBI pump.

If you do a LT1 cam swap with full exhaust you will need a TPI pump, AFPR, top dawn solution's 20psi FP spring and tune it correctly to feed 250-260hp @4500rpm.

Re: Fuelpump

Your stock FPR should bleed off the greater flow capacity of the TPI pump and maintain the pressure it was set to initially(12 lbs). I would swap in the TPI pump if you plan on any engine enhancements down the road. I would also make the FPR adjustable and add a FP gauge. If intentions are to run stock then the TBI pump should be just fine.

You took the words right out of my mouth... a few months ago, I switched my TBI pump out with a 255 lph fuel pump by Edelbrock intended for TPI applications and the excess fuel does exactly what you stated and I installed a fuel pressure gauge to assure that all stays well. The reason for the swap of pumps is that I am currently building a 383 stroker LT1, so I definitely will be needing the extra fuel / pressure . Your stock FPR corresponds with your ECM only letting the required fuel out, no more, no less.
