Re: Octane Booster?

Stock car..... just use the cheap gas, spending extra for higher octane or on octane booster..... does nothing for you except waste your money.

I doubt its the octane booster making your car idle funny. If its realllll bad, drain the gas out and take it as a lesson learned. Other then that, just let it burn out and next time you fill up sees if that corrects the issues.

Re: Octane Booster?

i put some in at the beginning of the summer and it did the same thing, but i adjusted the timing since then and thought that i might have been that, and i thought i would try some octane booster again but it just did the same thing.

Re: Octane Booster?

putting High octane in a car that isn't tuned for it can actualy be a bad idea. Depending on your timing, etc. it may not burn fully and you may actualy lose power. I advanced my timing to 8* and then I needed higher octane ( GA summer heat contributes too). before that 87 worked best.

so you are saying if i choose to run higher octane fuel in my car, i would have to change the timing for it to run right? Not that i am going to do that, but i didnt know that the higher octane would affect that.

Yes, or get upgrades that need higher octane.
But like I said, the people with stock cars who advance their timing a ton and run on premium...... I doubt they get that much more power from that.
I wouldent think it was worth the tiny amount of extra performance you would get. The price difference between 87 and premium alone could pay for a new cam after a years worth of gas I say.

So just run 87 til you can get mods for your engine. Once it starts giving you knock go up to 89, still getting knock, then go to premium.

Re: Octane Booster?

Using a higher octane gas will neither make you lose nor gain power. All it does is allow you to adjust your timing higher to avoid denotation.

Re: Octane Booster?

If you're set on an "octane booster" just buy a gallon of 110 race gas and add a quart at a time to really get any real change in octane. The only change these over the counter boosters give you is maybe a "point" of a boost. Like going form 91 to 91.2. So there really is no differance. But I would listen to what everybody else has said and just run the regular stuff if you're stock.
