lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
If I was to swap a 93 lt1 cam in, What would be the power, and quarter mile difference?
Re: lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
on a factory tune it would probaly run about the same in the 1/4, but with a higher mph, seeing as you would loose some bottom end for some more top/mid range power

Re: lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
If you're going to do a cam swap, why not go a little further than the LT1 cam. Its defiently better than stock, but is still pretty tame.
Stock LT1---202@ .450/ 207 @ .450 (1.5RR)--- 117 LSA
Maybe the Comp XR258HR or something along those lines, 206@.48 / 212@.487. Thats still very tame, but is a bit beyond what the LT1 offers. Of course, it all depends on what the rest of your build looks like. Just food for thought I guess, the Lt1 cam certainly isn't a bad choice if your staying near stock and just want to get the peanut cam out of there. It's certainly about the cheapest roller cam upgrade available to you.

Re: lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
I thought the max on stock heads was like .490 with different springs and retainers I was looking at the crane 2031 powermax cam , but crane told me I should go with the compucam 2020. Thats hardly a difference from the stock cam. Anyways I've got 1.6 Roller rockers, picking a cam is really a difficult decision becauses theirs somany advantages and disadvantages of each one.

.480 would be pushing it a lot on stock heads. What is the rest of the build like?

Re: lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
Rebuilt 305, Heads have been reworked, basically stock other than headers,exhaust,1.6roller rockers, tbi mods, pullies, I'm planning on changing the intake manifold at the same time. Have yall heard of anyone using the08-500-8 its the xr258 cam mentioned above it says its best for a tbi engine If I put my 1.5 rockers on with that cam I would still have to do work to the heads to make it work wouldn't I?

Stock lift wouldn't play nice with the XR258 - I guess the Lt1 cam is a good choice for you on stock heads, most cams beyond the LT1's duration are also going to have lift in excess of what the stock head should reasonably handle.

From what I've been reading it looks like you only gain like 15hp and no torque Thats not much at all. I don't know what to choose.

Re: lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
How about this Crane Cams 104225
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
208/214 @.050, lift is .438/.452 - its more aggressive than the LT1 cam, but should still be ok with stock heads. That would be a big wake up from that stock cam.

Thats the cam I was planning on getting. I called crane to ask them what springs I needed to run, and they recomended me the 2020. I think I might just try the 2031 i can get a really good deal on one right now.

Re: lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
I have done it twice with good results.
One car picked up 1 full second in the 1/4 mile.
The other picked up 40 hp, but no track time available.

The lt1 cam alone? What would I have to do to the heads to run my 1.6 rr?

Dyno Don you were talking about the Lt1 cam weren't you. Did that cam alone give you that gain? What intake manifold did you run with it? Thanks

Re: lt1 cam 1/4 mile difference?
Did you tune your car or did you get a chip made? Did you gain a good bit of torque also? This seems just as good as the crane or comp cams to me, well as far as an every day driving cam swap. Thanks for your help.
